THURSDAY OCTOBER 13th... mix thursdays present TAG TEAM NIGHT volume 1
we've lined up three sick tag team combos for ya'll, should work really well

GALAKSY (in da jungle, freak addiction crew)
& BASS FACIAL (beat concierge)

-a tag team between two of city's illest DnB DJs, the well established iDJ rep. GALAKSY and the upandcomin BASS FACIAL who's been turnin heads with sets at KO, solid mixing and tight tekky selections for the heads

DJ TIPSY T (drunken midget)
& PINKY 38 (planete break)

-definitely an interesting combination, the only thing these two have in common is the BPM or their sets: around 130-135.. oh ya, also, they're both solid DJs who play FUNKY-ass shit. With Pinky supplying the breaks, and Tipsy supplying the 4/4 (usually)... who knows what'll happen. I have a feeling both of them will pull out all the stops, playing into their partners' style, and eventually ended up covered in fluorsecent chop suey, frolicking naked on the ceiling of saphir dripping gelatinous pleasure-ooze onto the blown heads and into the exposed inner brains of the mix thursday faithful.

FISHEAD
& [tobias c. van Veen] [ www.controltochaos.ca ]

-In the early 90's Fishead made his mark in the Winnipeg underground as the hardest of the hard, destroying turntables for the likes of Addict, Ele_mental & the Drop Bass Network. He began writing for Massive Magazine and was soon sharing Hardcore Editor duties with Doormouse. He has since gone on to annihilate the status quo at events across North America and worldwide. Uncompromising mixes such as the split-cassette with Venetian Snares entitled "Eat Shit and Die" are etched in many a demented memory. As a DJ he is capable of playing just about any style. Or styling any player. He cuts, flips & juggles tracks at a mindnumbing rate and attacks the turntables with an unadulterated fury that must be seen–& heard–to be believed. He currently resides in Montréal, Canada. In his spare time he works in the music industry, scouting talent and distributing the goods... [tobias c. van Veen] is a renegade theorist & pirate, techno-turntablist & writer (Montréal/Vancouver). Since 1993 he has directed conceptual and sound-art events, online interventions and radio broadcasts. Djing for over 10 years, tobias' style is marked by the cut-up & non-linear mixing styles of future techno & house: Detroit, minimal, dub, glitch and acid. Spin that through the regional markers of context & the application of concept (masochism, atmosphere, ritual). His Dj sets have appeared on [ BetaLounge.com ] Burn.fm, NoType's Bricolodge and [ Techno.ca ] and his skills have graced events worldwide. As a digital musician, tobias has a 2005 album on and/OAR with tomas phillips entitled If not, winter. An article discussing his experimental work with turntable scripts appeared in Leonardo Music Journal 13. His work has appeared in CTheory, EBR, Bad Subjects, Leonardo, FUSE (contributing editor), e/i (columnist), the Wire, HorizonZero and through Autonomedia, among others. His writing has been translated into Spanish, Lithuanian and French and his art disseminated through [ Rhizome.org ] [ Javamuseum.org ] [RRF-->XP], Kunstradio & CiTR. From 1993-2000 he was Direktor of the sonic performance Collective on the West Coast and co-founder of [ technoWest.org ] and [ thisistheonlyart.com ] He currently hosts The Upgrade! Montréal and is Concept Engineer at the Society for Arts and Technology. Tobias is a doctoral candidate in Philosophy & Communication Studies at McGill University. His dissertation is on the political and its encounters with digital culture. He also mixes a mean absynthe martini. His blog resides at: [ [ quadrantcrossing.org ] ] & his work is archived at : [ quadrantcrossing.org ]

Word on the street is that fishead won't be around much in the future, this may be your last chance to hear him. Fishead has long been one of my favourite Montreal DJs, and has had an significant impact on the Canadian electronic scene at large through all of his various endeavours (^^^) whether in Montreal or in Winnipeg. Big Love.

MIX THURSDAYS UPSTAIRS @ SAPHIR 3699 ST-LAURENT 10pm-3am, 2-for-1 beers before midnight. $4 at the door.
