[ www.xanga.com ] here is what she wrote. I'm about to venture into potentially dangerous territory. Anyone with firm and unwavering views on abortion probably shouldn't read any further into this post. For the past few days, I've been reading and hearing about the future of legal abortions in the United States, and on Monday, an interesting article found its way into my email. (For anyone curious, the article can be found here.) Legislators in California attempting to create and pass a bill to protect the rights and privacy of women in the event that Roe Vs. Wade is overturned after President Bush appoints a more conservative judge into the Supreme Court. Good for them. I'm a woman, so I'm totally on this women's rights bandwagon. But I'm not pro-choice, no no no. I don't believe in abortion. Well, that's not entirely true. In the cases of rape and incest, or potential threats to the health of mother or child, I fully support abortion as a valid option. However, I'm not one of those lunatics with a big sign, pictures of fetuses and a sniper rifle. I just think that people should use their brains before partaking in activities that could bring another life into this world. Even though I'm pro-life, I don't want to see Roe Vs. Wade overturned. I don't think that's something that a government should be able to legislate. Yeah, I disagree with abortions, but I'd never stop someone from having one. That's a personal, private choice. A woman has a right to her body, and if we start by outlawing abortions, then what? We need to build a more responsible society. If we as a society protected ourselves, and were totally and wholly responsible for our actions, we'd have far fewer unwanted pregnancies. You wanna feel good? Masturbate. Buy a vibrator. Fool around. If you don't wanna get pregnant, don't have sex. That simple. Maybe when we can take responsibility for our own lives, the government won't have to do it for us. |
