WASHINGTON - Federal authorities may prosecute sick people whose doctors prescribe marijuana to ease pain, the Supreme Court ruled Monday, concluding that state laws don't protect users from a federal ban on the drug. The decision is a stinging defeat for marijuana advocates who had successfully pushed 10 states to allow the drug's use to treat various illnesses.

I just don't get why the fuck would someone who's sick be prescribed marijuana. Can someone explain this to me ? The whole "medical marijuana" thing... it's bullshit.

I understand why they use morphine... it's a pain killer... I understand why they used ketamine.... it's a dissociative analgesic. But what does weed do except dry your mouth and make you say stupid things ??? Come on....

weed is a mild pain-killer. They prescribe it to people in pain.

Granted I smoke weed mainly because I like the feeling of being high, but I've also got rheumatoid arthritis, and lemme tell you, 2-3 days of not smoking and my joints start locking up, they hurt, and it becomes even HARDER to do anything because of the sheer amount of PAIN involved with doing anything that involves any joint movement, down to the individual vertebrea on my back.

precisely. I smoke weed whenever I have a headache, it works a thousand times better then advil, tylenol, OR codeine. It's also instant :D

Also, it helps people gain an appetite, for example HIV patients who have to take drugs that ruin their appetite

its a major anti-nauseant, or at least, it relieves even the most EXTREME nausea. this is why chemo patients use it. i didnt really understand it myself until i had a toxic episode a while back accompanied by severe nausea. when i smoked weed, it was like the difference between night and day. seriously. after experiencing the benefits firsthand, i cant even believe that marijuanas medical legality is STILL an issue. for shame on the governement

True, that's the only decent reason, IMO. But I'm sure they've come up with something chemical, compact, efficient and costly that does perfectly that job. :b

But the "mild painkiller" explanation, I don't buy it. I'm sorry but if I bang my head against the wall until it hurts, and I smoke a joint, it won't hurt less. I know, because I tried... jk

As far as I'm concerned, alcohol is more of a painkiller than weed. So why not prescribe getting drunk while we're at it ?

well that's funny, I must be an alien or something. It isn't like other pain killers, it doesn't numb you. It only works for certain things and like I said it's mild. If you have a cut it won't make the cut hurt less. If I have a migraine, it won't help, but if I have a normal headache it's like magic. If I have a stomach ache it's liek magic as well... but not as magical as headaches.
