 Coolness: 58075 | i don't think we can actually say that religion is bad, based on what we've seen on the news and read in the paper about what happened, since we were not actually there, and we don't know how it is there.
and i dont think religion is bad either, i think people can choose to beleive in whatever they want as long as it keeps them going in life. but getting carried away and going over board, is what can hurt people around you and cause hate. But i think that right now, the media is trying really hard to make the muslim religion look like savages, because they want everyone to hate muslims. i think people should just stop killing each other and life could be so much better |

equally bad.. and it's the religions themselves that promote these intolerant behaviors.. the chruch is against gays.. islam has terrible womans rights.. i'm not gonna get into judesim.. but people who say religion is not to blame should really wake up to the fact that they play a biiiiiig role in the problem. people are stupid, and do as they are told, thus the need to follow docterine. in nigeria they stone women who have sex out of marriage.. and sorry to tell you this, but that kinda behavior is found in the bible.. don't get me wrong, i really don't care if people are way into their beliefs.. but when they get to the point where they kill each other, or even hate eachother for it.. the concept of religion gets thrown downt the sitter.. which is why i've removed it from my life. |

| Coolness: 91825 | of course killing is not the answer and the newspaper article is certainly no reason to kill anyone, but to make a statement like that writer did shows a total lack of sensitivity as well as complete lack of forsight that yes, Nigeria is full of religious extremists who might overeact to the suggestion made in the article. The argument that religion is bad cause of all the wars and death it leads to is not hard to make, but in many cases the main factors in such wars are not religious but political/economic/etc. As for the religion we are talking about here, Islam, we really get a negative perception of it here because the only time it makes it to the news is connected with violence of some sort, I'm not going to allege some media conspiracy or anything, but Islam is actually the one religion I've had the most positive experience with having travelled in Islamic countries. |

People have grown up since then. We know a lot more about the world than we ever did and it's stupid to think anything is as simple as "It's god/allah/santa clause will!" Religion is stupid and oppresive. Religion does not alow one to make up their own mind. Religion dictates who you can and cannot like or love. Religion dictates that those who aren't with you, are against you and should be converted. If they cannot be, they should die as an act of mercy upon their soul. World peace will only be achieved once all the world's religions have fallen. Then, we will have no one to tell us who to hate and who to love and we can make up our own minds. |

| Coolness: 685725 | Because in the past, before we had a fraction of what we had now and knew a fraction of what we know now, people needed to be taught a lot of things by people because they couldn't learn it on their own or didn't have access to it. Take judeism and the whole not eating pork thing. That has nothing to do with it being an unclean animal. It's because pork needs to be cooked exactly a certain amount or you could die from food poisoning. Same with storing it. They didn't have propper storage techniques or didn't know exactly how to cook it. So the people with "inteligence" came up with rules and explained to the common folk that pigs were unclean animals and that's why you can get sick from eating them.
Religion started out with good intentions, but then got corupted. Take baptism and mariage, the first 100% effective money making scheme. The lie: The evil satan worshipers and heretics sacrifice virgins. The rules state: Sex without mariage is a sin. Mariage costs money. Sex without the intention of spreading a familly is a sin. Sex = guaranteed babies Then; Lie #2: "Evil" heretics and satan worshipers sacrifice unbaptised babies. The catch: Baptism costs money. The other catch: How many guys wanna have sex only once in their lives? Here come more babies, 'cause it can't be only for pleasure.. Here comes more money... And once they're old enough, the church can hit them up with "Sure, you were baptized, but your still a virgin!" Begin loop. |
