yeah... you can do hara kiri (suicide moves).

basically, when you get beaten, you can kill yourself before your opponent can do a fatality move.

check out the new sub-zero:

they aren't even mini-games! the konquest and chess mode are full fledged games themselves. it's nuts!

and amalgam, it's coming out on PS2 as well. i guess it'll have online play as well.

I'm getting the Xbizzle this month (work is frickin awesome). Good to hear I can have some ultraviolence served up with the GTA pack, counter-strike, and HALO.
This obviously won't fuck up kids. God I'd hate to be a parent these days...

Not at all, it's because it was the first game to actually feature some "free" blood spilling and the whole concept of fatalities, that's why people liked MK.
I couldn't care less about the graphics, good graphics don't necessarly mean good gameplay.

No but they were so much creepier I found...ne ways, maybe its my imagination, all I know is that the sub-zero Fatality in the first one got me really excited.

Mortal Kombat pilfered some character designs from this action cult movie, [ www.imdb.com ] Trouble in Little China

Raiden

Shang Tsung

Johny Cage and Lui Kang ~token american and chinese archetype

Sub-Zero and Scorpion is essential to MK as Ryu and Ken is to Street Fighters. Too bad i gave up console gaming long ago. (Mortal Kombat Deception) Looks like a fun game.

actually Johnny Cage is based on Jean-Claude Van Damme's character in Bloodsport, Frank Dux. Johnny Cage even wears the same outfit Frank Dux wears in the final fight of Bloodsport.

and Liu Kang is an hommage to Bruce Lee.
