Seems like when someone says "urban culture" they mean "Black Culture".. since when did Urban become a synonym for black?

Urban culture is the culture of "the streets", which is generaly more embraced by black people than white people. Black people are usually the ones that you think of when you hear some hip hop beats playing, but there's still a very large part of it that's white. Anyone who thinks that urban = black is probably very ignorant on the subject and is talking out their ass anyways.

Graffiti could be termed "urban artwork" the same way as drinking a 40 oz on the streets could be referred to as "urban bourbon"

Blacks might have been the 1st generation but Portoricans picked it up waaaay before white kids. But a lot of white people marked the Hip Hop culture altho today's media makes it look like a black's only thing. And urban culture is pretty much the culture of the underground / alternative scenes, be it punk rock - 'raves' - hiphop - ..., they are all part of the urban culture.

Urban culture is often associated with black culture but it has grown way beyond just that over the years.

Go to a real hip-hop show and check out the crowd, You'll find blacks, white folk, latinos, asians, jews, whatever...

MTV popular rap tries to make it look like a black only thing but the truth is they are just way behind the actual underground scenes and they only stick with the gangster bling bling element...

not to rag on Biggie n Pac (anymore than i already have)...

but the majority of their songs are filled with the same kinda messages as hip hop is today

though they both have their moments, neither of their lyrics are that far above and beyond
Urban = Black?
