Discuss all your bad trips ... inform all the kids out there of your bad experiences so they won't have to live through them too!!!
"a bad trip occurs when the lovely, nice, glowy effects of a drug turn into nasty, paranoid, and horrible scariness bad trips happen for a reason, usually one of the following: -adverse environment influences noise, strangers etc preying on the vulnerable, tripping mind -attempt to mentally resist the effect of the drug because you are scared or you can't relax the surfacing of difficult and uncomfortable unconscious material or memories -the amplification of issues or problems between tripping people -a larger dose than you have experienced before " [ www.thegooddrugsguide.com ] Any drug can bring on a bad trip - even E, even alcohol (never got home, drunk, and cried?). The more powerful psychedelic drugs (LSD, magic mushrooms, ketamine) are most likely to cause a bad trip, but 'lesser' mind drugs such as amphetamines, cannabis, and cocaine can all induce paranoia and weirdness. |

There was this one time, up on mount royal... I took an MDA, and that was a LOT stronger than the MDMA I was used to and I got a little freaked out for about an hour, But it still saved me from freaking out when I ate 5 handfulls of mush. Still wasn't too pleasent of a mush trip for a while, but the night was an over-all success, even though I'm just STARTING to feel "normal" after that night.
800mg of DXM was horrible. On top of dissasociative halucinations that you can't tell apart from "reality", turns out I'm alergic to DXM, so I got horrible body-wide itching. NOT something good when your on one of the strongest halucinogens... There's that time I accidentaly did 1 1/2 vials of K, but I don't remember too much other than feeling horrible 5 minutes after I realised what I did, starting to panic, and then waking up in the bathtub... The day after coke I was a total paranoid sketchbag, even more than I'd ever been on speed or mdma. I kept thinking that I was going to die and I'd see a million and one scenarios of how it would happen, like the premonitions that the ppl get in Final Destination. Last thursday, very drunk and high on mush, the HHC that Charlie had put on made me bad-trip for about... uhmmm... yeah my sence of time was fucked so I dunno how long that lasted, but Cpt. Mushroom saved the day! :lol This one time at my friend Andy's place, I drank a 23oz Bacardi Limon, a mickey of some kind of whiskey, a mickey of brandy, and then I took some very long and agressive hits off of a bong. My brain for some reason took a maaaaaaaasive nose-dive and I got really depressed and went home, and I think I spent a week locked up in my room crying. |

Paying attention to set and setting can help avert a bad trip. Before tripping, be aware of your mental state over the past few days, and how this might influence your trip. Never take a high dose of psychedelics during a period of emotional turmoil. Pre-loading your brain with pleasant images (eg seeing nature videos or taking a walk outdoors) before tripping can help ensure a positive mindset. Performing ritual for a day or more before a powerful trip can also be useful; some suggest fasting or meditation. As for setting, its most important to be in a safe and pleasant place with people you are completely comfortable with, and who you can count on to provide assistance if neccesary. Indoor raves (as i've learnt, the hard way) are not particularly good places for high doses. Having a sober sitter who is experienced with psychedelics is ideal.
When caught in a bad trip or negative thought loop, its important to be able to consciously divert yourself from the cause of the negative trip. This can be done by changing setting (ex going to a quiet area) or consciously redirecting your thoughts. Here are two of the common negative thoughts associated with bad trips, and how I avoid them: Negative thought loop: Beleiving that you're going crazy or that something terrible will happen. Solution: Remind yourself that you've taken a safe dose and that the effects are temporary. Don't try to fight the effects or maintain control. Negative thought loop: Worrying excessively about the things that have happened in the past or that may happen in the future. Solution: Focus on the present moment. Remember that the ego is but a fabrication of the mind. Being fully aware of one's moment by moment state of existance is the true goal. |

bad trips...hmmm im not sure if i believe in them. an experience may be unpleasant painful and harsh- but in the end it probably teaches you far more than a "good trip" |

That's a really insightful point, and I'm inclined to agree with you. Many of my high dose trips have resulted in some difficult periods involving the surfacing of subcouncious fears, which then provided me an oppurtunity to confront and overcome these fears. |

Things are all in how you chose to percieve them. Most people only see in black and white. Good trip or bad trip. But there are millions of shades of grey in between. It's only bad if you aren't mentaly prepared for what's happening. It's the same with food or smells. There is no such thing as a "bad" smell, it's just a smell! But it could be strong and/or unpleasent, and everyone will associate it with the word "bad" and immediately think it's gross and nasty. |

My worst bad trip was a beautiful mix of Pot, Strong and Weak alcohols and crappy mesc bought au parc des foufs.
Never do that kidz. |
Good [+1]Toggle ReplyLink» Phoenix replied on Thu Mar 11, 2004 @ 11:57am |
it was more than likely your crappy mesc (aka: pcp). theres no reason to include pot as a contributing factor. |

Pot ish bad I's say. I used to smoke a lot when I was a bit younger , I stopped, and now I get 2 puffs and I'm on my ass, shaking and thinking about all the diseases I could possibly have inside...
Pot is not a soft drug, it's just that ppl who smoke it every fuckin' day just get used to it ... Yeah , but it probably was the pcp mixed witht he alcohol ... |

Shaking?.... sounds more like you're experiencing withdrawl.... Or maybe your buds were sprayed with windex. |

Actually, paranoia is a frequent side effect of pot for people who abuse it.
I'd still consider pot to be a "soft drug" at least relative to most other drugs, but its still not something I'd like to become dependent on or use every day. But its the only drug I feel comfortable using once or more every week, for example. |

I can't handle pot anymore ... this sounds a bit ridicoulous when you think that some 10yo kids are smoking it everyday ... ... Anyway, I'll stick to beer, this ish the greatest... |
