MEDICINAL MARIJUANA: HELP OR HARM

County supervisors believe they are above the law. They are suing the
very people of the state who overwhelmingly voted in favor of medical
marijuana with Prop. 215 ("County to sue state over marijuana rules /
ID-card requirement is called unlawful," News, Nov. 9).

California Attorney General Bill Lockyer has repeatedly upheld our
state law and the supervisor's own attorney has told them it's a
losing battle. Our state Constitution says that federal laws do not
invalidate state laws except in matters of interstate commerce and
crime.

Medical marijuana is not a crime. Prop. 215 legalized the use of
marijuana with a doctor's recommendation. The supervisors must stop
grandstanding and wasting our precious resources on lawsuits that will
be lost. They have painted themselves into a corner and now will throw
our money away trying to save face.
