NEW BEDS IN THE WORKS FOR ADDICTS

Oceanside's Crystal Meth Task Force Is Close to Finding Money for Two
Recovery Beds for People Recovering From the Drug

A proposed partnership will, says task force chairperson Kevin Wilson,
help fund safe harbour supported recovery beds for people recovering
from crystal meth addiction in a couple of area homes. The plan is to
have the beds for post-detox users in two separate homes, recommended
by the ministry of children

The task force is looking for community support for the beds -either
through in-kind or general donations - to help the host families
support their new addition

A lunch program for children not in school has also started at the SOS
Child, Youth and Family Centre from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursdays. It
provides free food through the new teen outreach program. It ties in
with a program Wednesday evenings. There, youth can find help in
getting their education back on track, says Wilson

Last Thursday was also the launch of a parents' support group. While
the details are still being developed, it's a place where parents,
whose children are struggling with substance abuse, can go to talk,
share experiences and seek help

For more information on any of these services, phone the SOS at
248-2093.
