RCMP PROBES MAYOR-ELECT DRUG ALLEGATIONS

The RCMP is looking into the actions of mayor-elect Sam Sullivan,
following his admission that he helped addicts pay for drugs, CBC
News Online reports.

RCMP spokesman Staff Sgt. John Ward said Mounties -- at the request
of Vancouver Chief Const. Jamie Graham -- are looking into the
situation surrounding the purchase of drugs.

Ward said officers have been collecting information for weeks, but
have not launched an investigation.

Sullivan has openly admitted he bought street drugs for addicts and
even allowed a young drug user to smoke crack cocaine in his van.

During the election campaign, Sullivan defended his actions, saying
he was researching the addiction problem in Vancouver.

Calls made to Sullivan yesterday were not returned.
