NEW LAW CUTS OFF POWER TO SUSPECTED GROW-OPS

TORONTO -- Under a new provincial law, electricity distributors in
Ontario can cut power to homes when they suspect residents are trying
to grow pot.

Electricity can be shut off with the backing of a court order if there
is reasonable cause to suspect criminal activity, according to the
legislation that passed yesterday.

The law also doubles the maximum fines for tampering with electrical
wiring, a common way of disguising the consumption of large quantities
of power for a grow op.
