My Mac Is Officially Dead :'(

That's right, as I was loading the last of my tunes to my laptop (something in me thought it may be a good idea to start backing up the hundreds of tunes I get monthly) firefox started crashing, a lot.
Now as I retrace my steps, I had thrown out a folder of fonts before hand, so maybe I threw out crucial fonts that the os needs to run? Either way, I restart the fucker and the sign-in box doesn't appear, just the pale blue screen and the cursor. I wait a little, and nothing gives. My mac is dead. So is my life. |

* Put the install DVD in the drive * Turn on the computer, keep your hand on the C key. This will boot from the CD * When you get to the Welcome screen, look in the upper menu bar for Utilities -> Disk Utilities * Run Disk Repair * Reboot normally If that doesn't work. CLICK HERE: [ support.apple.com ] * Start the computer and keep your fingers on Command-V. This will boot in Verbose mode * What does the computer say?

RIP Mac :(
what kind of Mac was it? was it somewhat recent? cuz if it was, then chances are that it was PC compatible or any other mac... so maybe you can take out the hard drive out of the corpse, hook it up to any computer as an external HD and proceed with your backups =) itd be a long shot, but who knows... it just might fly :P

But since Mac OS X is a UNIX based system, it might work in a linux or bsd on a PC system. Like Samwise said, it be a long shot, but who knows... it just might fly :P |

If you're on Leopard and you used Time Machine at all you should be able to restore it very easily with the Install disc and your external HD. If you don't have all those shiny features you can try doing a NVRAM or whatever reset by pressing the power button for 10 seconds, then pressing option, command, p, and r at the same time as it starts up. This will reset the parameter RAM. If that doesn't work, it might be your RAM, sometimes that gets loose. When it's really dead, the screen won't even turn on, so I think you should be able to figure it out. But try as hard as you can to avoid the Apple Store. It is a very, very, scary place. Tech Support people get the pretentious title of "Geniuses". It's too much.

get an install disk, also if you hold the 'T' key when the computer is starting up it goes into target disk mode, if you plug another mac into it you can load the HD as an external HD.
If you get the blue screen it prob means the system is corrupted, but not the HD.
