| Seriously, I have my grandfather's old jacket and there's a german flag stitched on it.. suddenly I'm a nazi. I've had Jewish friends of mine tell me their parents don't want me in their house because of my last name. My grandparents left Germany when the Nazi party came to power, before anything bad even happened. They just didn't agree with the policies (much tamer then their eventual policies) of their current government, and had been planning to move to Canada anyways. I'm proud of being German, there's a rich history of technical and industrial achievement etc etc... sure, they tried to take over the world.. but a few hundred years earlier, the british actually DID take over the world (my other ethnic roots btw)... and commited horrible atrocities against any culture that tried to stop them. The holocaust was more about the German population being blinded by the charisma and charm of Hitler, many Germans never knew about the way the Jews were actually being treated, and only saw the Nazi powers policies as extremely nationalistic and proud. Hitler duped the country into following him, bah.. I'm rambling.
To summarize: Not all Germans are Nazis, and the country has spent the past 50 years trying to make up for it, and they will continue to keep trying to make up for it because the world will never let them off the hook. This is a burden many Germans bear willingly.

| Germans will continue to have a bad name for at least 20 more years.. we still have people alive today that fought in the war, and those people will never forgive them.. it takes a while for these kinds of things to fade away.. but it will eventually happen. |
