Cd Or Vinyl

| I have been curious as to why DJ's still seem to primarily use vinyl. I myself find it overpriced, inferior sounding to cd's (at least on cheap rave/club soundsystems), and fragile (play a record too much and it starts sounding like crap quickly, high end goes to shit.. I have heard this is many dj mixes/sets).
The only benefits I can see to it are
a) you can scratch with it, which most dj's don't do anyway + it wrecks the vinyl even faster
b) Some stuff is only available on vinyl (older stuff) and rare vinyl can be valuable and you can brag about it/be elite.
c) People are too used to it
what are you're opinions? Please don't say stuff like "because it's cooler", because that is a pretty dumb and candykid-ish statement. |

| I agree that it is possible to scratch using digital tools but it is not possible to replicate all the scratching techiques possible on turntables yet. |

| i think its mainly to do with the appearance, and also increases the barrier to new dj's since lots of people have cd's and laptops but far less have vinyl and turntable equipment..seems sorta like an elitist thing to me |

| its funny because alot of "djs" who use vinyl got them from their parents for xmas and suck at mixing totally.

| If you want bass, vinyl all the way. CDs are great though if you don't want to cary around 6 tons of vinyl to spin, or if your a broke-ass bitch who can't afford to buy things and just burn CDs from MP3s you download off kazaa which are total shit quality so not only is there not ass good a bass response but you also get tons of distortion in all frequencies. |

| vinyls are cooler cause they are traditonal and from what i think, harder to work with. yes mixing is slower so if you can get a fast mix with vinyl the you are a better dj.
vinyl is sexier. trust me. less nerdy. |

I don't think so, I would rather mixing be easier so djs screw up less, or don't just slam fade everyone song (like a certain nameless dj at noahs party did, totally ruining my feet bouncing) |

| the only cd dj's i respect are the ones that actually purchase cd singles : i don't know of any that do. to me, anyone that downloads music from the internet, burns it, and spins it out to entertain people (getting paid or not) does not deserve, in my mind, to go far. |
