The more speakers and power make for better ability to customize your sound to a room and better range is a benefit too, the room is huge so our rig will be very well utilized. The deco will be used at 100% capacity. There's also the psychological benefit of a massive sound system. It provides better coverage and psyches people up just to see it....

Interesting technical information :-) ... But what about the decoration ? ;-p How many meters of wall covering decoration fabric will be installed ? That is a really important question. Is the sound will be better with thicker fabric ? If you use, let's say, 15% of the fabric you bought, is the decoration more impressive that if you bought less, but you use 30% ? :-S loll ... Most of the time it's just fluff people use as a selling point. You need more power (current) if your speakers have more impedance (power require to create a magnetic +/- field). Most speakers now use Neodymium Ultra Rare Magnets which are a lot lighter then the old Alnico Magnets (aluminum, nickel, iron and cobalt) and require less power to make them work. Some speakers are 2 ohms, some 4 ohms and some 8 ohms. People claim sound quality is better when you have more resistance to the speaker but with amplifiers having a 0.02% distortion rate now because the advance in technology no human can really tell the difference anymore. You need 2x more electrical current to drive a 4 ohm speaker over a 2 ohm one. Possibly the more power you put in the more you can get the speaker to move air which creates the sound you hear so if you want sound to travel super far you need more power to move that much more air.

yes yes of course no one would want bleeding ears, you know i know that ;) my question is still unanswered... i'll reformulate; in what regards is 25k better than 10k for instance...? if you use only 10-15% of 25k it's like using 25-33% of 10k. does using a lower percentage bring better sound quality? is it because you have more speakers so you can make a more interesting setup in the space, in terms of sound dynamics? i must not be the only one curious about that kind of stuff... because at the moment for me the number means nothing if we're not using it, i want to know why it's a good thing :P

Just like it's not a good idea to drive a car all the time at 250km/hour it's not a good idea to drive speakers at their maximum output especially indoors. Do you really want the music to be as loud as a jet engine for 8 hours or higher then the threshold of pain? I don't think so and most large speakers can get that loud but just because they can does not mean you want that.

hehe cool :) i'll still bring earplugs, it's always a good idea to have them around in a party ;)... maybe irrelevant but i'm still curious about this; why have 25k sound if only 10-15% of it is used? that's like... 2.5 - 3.5k... does it sound better if you only use a low percentage of the capacity of the speakers? oh yes and that place... is neighbors to the beach volley place?

Actually I had a nice long conversation with my sound tech, during which we agreed to set the volume loud enough to feel but not to hurt anyone's ears or cause anyone to have to scream just to talk. We'll be deferring to our expert's opinion throughout the night. With that said, there will be no shortage of sound or vibe.

25k system would probably run at 10-15% volume in most indoor locations... You never run speakers at it's full capacity unless you are in a stadium and need super high SPL and you're like 100 meters away from the speakers. I don't think it's anyones intention to fry people's ears.
