His first\ninstrument was the clarinet and he began to focus on the electric bass at 13.\nFour years later he co-founded the avant-rock band Mr. Bungle. In 1990 he\nreceived a BA in music from Humboldt State where he performed Koussevitsky's\nConcerto for Double Bass with the HSO. In 2001 he was commissioned by the Elaine\nKaufman Cultural Center to write "Dépaysemant" for prepared solo contrabass\nperformed later that year at Merkin Hall\, Lincoln Center\, NYC. Dunn has lived in\nBrooklyn\, NY since 2000 and can be heard on over 150 recordings\nincluding original film music “Four Films” (Tzadik) his rock band “MadLove”\n(Ipecac) and a collection of chamber music\, “Nocturnes” (Tzadik) featuring a\nstring quartet and solo piano\npieces. He can be heard with John Zorn\, Endangered Blood\, Nels Cline Singers\,\nTomahawk\, Kris Davis\, Dan Weiss\, and The Melvins with whom in 2012 he toured all\n50 States in 50 days. During the pandemic Dunn founded an independent record\nlabel Riverworm Records and released his project SpermChurch\, a duo with\nDutch-Indonesian electronic musician Sannety. His third trio-convulsant record\n“Sèances” (Pyroclastic)\, amended with a chamber quartet\, was released in 2022.\nOther recent releases include more film music\, KingDunn (acoustic duo with Buzz\nOsborne from the Melvins)\, Ahleuchatistas and Titan To Tachyons.
