DESCRIPTION:Saturday August 22nd Blue Room welcomes Nicola Torreiro / Shelton Cooper & Samira\n \n\nNicola Torreiro is a Montreal-based DJ and producer with over 30 years in the electronic music scene. He is best known as the founder of Bal en Blanc\, conceived in 1994\, which became one of Montreal’s most iconic electronic music events. Throughout his career\, he has been a key figure in Montreal nightlife\, with appearances at Stereo\, Aria\, Sona\, Playground\, Salon Daomé and more. He has produced for Black & Blue and DiverCité\, with releases on Stereo Productions\, Lapsus Music\, and Magna Recordings. His signature sound is driving\, tribal and hypnotic\, drawing from house\, progressive and techno\, with a deep connection to Montreal’s underground scene.\n\nOriginally from South Africa\, Shelton Cooper has been deeply involved in underground electronic music\, DJ culture\, production\, and sound systems for over two decades. He is the co-founder of The Sanctuary in Montreal\, alongside the late Angel Moraes\, and owned and operated the venue for nearly seven years\, helping establish it as a unique home for underground electronic music and powerful sound. As a DJ\, producer\, and sound-system enthusiast\, Shelton remains deeply connected to the culture\, with a lifelong passion for music\, community\, and the art of sound.\n\nOriginally from London and of Dutch-Iranian heritage\, Samira began documenting the UK’s underground electronic music scene through design and photography in the 1990s. She relocated to Montreal in 2004 and became deeply involved in its electronic music community.\nIn 2015\, she joined Rhythm is Rhythm as Lead Creative before making the transition behind the decks in 2021.
