DESCRIPTION:Jessica Moss:\n\nJessica Moss is a Montréal-based violinist and composer who began writing and\nperforming solo work under her own name in 2014\; she has since made four\nfull-length albums. Moss uses amplified and processed violin (and voice) to\ncreate works of expressive electronic- and drone-inflected post-classical\nMinimalism and Maximalism\, with a distinctive melodic sensibility that often\nchannels Klezmer\, Balkan and Middle Eastern tropes\, and an ear for textural grit\nand timbral noise forged from her 15-year tenure in agitprop postpunk band Thee\nSilver Mt. Zion (2001-2016).\n\nMoss self-released her debut solo album Under Plastic Island\, recorded with Guy\nPicciotto\, in fall 2015. Two acclaimed albums on the Constellation imprint\nfollowed: Pools Of Light (2017) and Entanglement (2018)\; her third\, Phosphenes\,\nwas released in November 2021—all three co-produced with Radwan Ghazi Moumneh\n(Jerusalem In My Heart\, Matana Roberts\, Suuns). A Closer Listen has described\nMoss as “an artist whose solo work has surpassed her collaborative work\, she\nbecomes her instrument and channels its harmonic power”\; Loud And Quiet has\ncalled her solo music “inventive\, powerful\, deeply engaging\, carrying real\nweight.”\n\nMoss has performed extensively throughout North America and Europe\, including\nappearances at Big Ears\, WSO New Music\, Le Guess Who?\, ATP\, Supersonic and\nBasilic Hudson 24-HOUR DRONE.\n\nKy:\n\nKy is the new project of Ky Brooks\, best known as the vocalist of the noise-punk\ntrio Lungbutter. Here\, along with weirdo music mainstays James Goddard (Skin\nTone\, Egyptian Cotton Arkestra)\, Mathieu Ball (Big | Brave)\, Robert Grieve\n(Blastronaut) and Farley Miller (FeeFawFum\, Shining Wizard)\, they present Power\nIs The Pharmacy\, an album of cerebral and visceral outsider artpunk. This\nemotionally electrifying collection of songs delivers an acute blend of incisive\nsocio-political observation and spiritual sadness\, swirling through\ndisenchantment and re-enchantment.\n\nEliza Kavtion:\n\nEliza Kavtion is The performance vehicle of Tiohtiake based Kanien'kehaka\nrecording artist Eliza Kaheroton Santos.\n\nJessica Ackerley:\n\nDuring the past decade\, Jessica Ackerley has established themselves on the\nCanadian and American music scenes as a unique and versatile guitarist\, composer\nand improvisor. Born in Alberta\, Canada\, Jessica now resides in Honolulu after\nalmost decade of being located in New York City. They have worked alongside\nnotable musicians such as Tyshawn Sorey\, Daniel Carter\, Marc Edwards\, Luke\nStewart\, Patrick Shiroishi\, and Jason Nazary\, to name a few.\n\nSince 2017\, Ackerley released thirteen albums as a bandleader and collaborator\nto much acclaim\, making critics’ year- end lists on Jazz Right Now\, Avant Music\nNews\, Free Jazz Blog and Jazz Times Magazine. Their music has also been featured\nand reviewed in Wire Magazine\, BBC Radio\, Whole Note\, Musicworks Magazine\, New\nYork City Jazz Record\, and Bandcamp’s monthly “Best of” lists. In 2019\, they\nfounded The Brink Guitar Festival\, a four-day event featuring some of the most\ninnovative players on the instrument such as Miles Okazaki\, Elliott Sharp\, Wendy\nEisenberg\, and Dan Lippel\, among others.\n\nJean Néant:\n\nJoni Void is the artistic persona of Montréal-based French-British producer Jean\nNéant (he/them)\, whose output and various projects showcase their interest in\nexperimentation\, improvisation\, collaboration and multi-genre explorations.\nSelf-described as ‘cinéma-tek/cameratronica’ music\, the montage-based production\nof Joni Void incorporates elements of electronic and sample-based beats\, rap &\nhip-hop\, psychedelia\, musique concrete\, plunderphonics\, ambient\, drone\, glitch\,\nminimalism & electro-acoustic/improvised music. By way of their platform\nEveryday Ago https://everydayago.bandcamp.com\, Joni Void have extended their\nsound practice into other collaborative and live-based projects\, including\nreleases and performances with artists N NAO\, Sarah Pagé (as Page Vide)\, and\nMaya Kuroki\, to name but a few.\n\nskin tone:\n\nskin tone is the (mostly) solo performance project of Ndebele-Canadian artist\nJames Nicholas Dumile Goddard. skin tone incorporates saxophone\, voice\, mbira\nand electronics\; it explores issues related to blackness\, the canon\, and the\nfuture. Goddard also performs in a variety of experimental ensembles including\nnotably Egyptian Cotton Arkestra & NYON.\n\nRob Grieve:\n\nPrairie born and raised\, Rob Grieve spent over a decade in Toronto before\nsettling in Montreal. They are a multidisciplinary professional session musician\nwith experience playing in a wide array of musical contexts around the globe. In\ntheir original work\, they are interested in reifying the limit points of\nmaximalism and minimalism as its own homogenous sonic milieu. In other words\,\nthey like to play a lot of notes very loudly.\n\nSOURCE: https://montreal.askapunk.net/event/ky-jessica-moss-jessica-ackerley-eliza-kavtion-jean-neant-rob-grieve-skin-tone/
