CALL TO ACTION

Re: "Time to take drug growers' power theft seriously," Diane
Colley-Urquhart, Opinion, Jan. 13.

I read Ald. Diane Colley-Urquhart's disturbing letter in Friday's
Calgary Herald. I am very upset that our utilities are profiting from
illegal grow operations. It is shocking that the law-abiding consumer
is subsidizing the utilities' in-ability or desire to curb the theft
of electricity.

Colley-Urquhart's letter was well written and seemingly well
researched, but fails to identify a call to action. She has contacted
En-max, but they have shown no interest in addressing this problem.
What can we, the consumer and taxpayer, do to stop this outrage? What
leadership role will the Calgary Herald take? We Calgarians own the
transmission lines.

We demand and support the introduction of legislation at the
provincial and municipal level to force the utilities to adopt the
technology to detect power theft and stop the misuse of our assets by
criminals.
