Burger King sells Windows 7 Whoppers as Microsoft begins Guru training

By Neil Hughes
Published: 10:20 AM EST

In concert with Thursday's release of Windows 7, Burger King in Japan has begun selling a Whopper with seven patties of meat; and a Microsoft Store "Guru" has been spotted in person.

In yet another bizarre bit of promotion, Burger King in Japan is selling a seven-pattied Whopper hamburger to commemorate the launch of Windows 7, Microsoft's new operating system. As first reported by Electronista, the new burger measures 5.1 inches tall and costs 777 yen, or $8.53 U.S.

Apparently, it's either to be "kind" or to "protect" them.

And by the way, I wasn't under the impression that these types of crimes have suddenly sky rocketed. It was just that I cannot remember the last time I heard so many stories involving shootings, and murder suicides in such quick succession.

I mean, there must have been 2-shootings (one in the U.S, one in B.C), cops killed in Oakland, 2-murder suicide stories, plus the story concerning the mother who killed her kids in Laval... And JUST NOW there's a story about 5-kids who were shot to death in a trailer park. If you type in Murder Suicide into Google news, the results are quite disheartening.

I bought the Genon/Pionner version, and yes, it pretty much ruined the experience for me. But a friend of mine who had never seen the movie before didn't mind whatsoever. It was a completely new experience for him, so he took it for what it was.

On the other hand, I think you can still get the original dialogue if you buy the Akira Special Edition box set.

Francois Taddei on April 3rd, 2009 4:46 pm

The information quoted from the Toronto Star is far from the truth, so here are some FACTS about this:

In 1977, the Charter of the French Language, also know as Bill 101, defined French as the only official language of Quebec and framing fundamental language rights of all Quebecers. In 1997, this law was amended so that every product sold in Quebec must include packaging, instructions and warranty certificates in French. Since then, all computer software, including game software and operating systems, whether installed or uninstalled, must be available in French unless no French version exists. Video games publishers were given a six year grace period to comply. Since 2003, video games are now available with French packaging/booklets/warranties.

In 2007, the Quebec government finalized a deal with the Entertainment Software Association of Canada, to increase the number of video games available in French in Quebec. Activision Blizzard, Disney Interactive Studios, Electronic Arts, Microsoft Canada, Nintendo of Canada, Sony Computer Entertainment Canada, Take2 Interactive, THQ and Ubisoft Canada, who are all members of the Entertainment Software Association of Canada, agreed that they would be able to offer their next generation games with French content before April 1st, 2009, if such a version exists elsewhere in the world.

After this deal was announced in 2007, the number of bilingual games raised significantly. For example, in 2007, only 17% of Xbox 360 games were available in French in Quebec. Today, half of the Xbox 360 library (about 190 titles out of 380) is available in French in Quebec. Almost every new AAA release is now bilingual or multilingual. Games that are only available in English, that don’t exist in French, still can be sold in Quebec. Out of the thousand games released each year, almost every one of them made their way in Quebec. Retailers complaining about possible delays or higher pricing are not truthful.

That’s about it, so there’s nothing new here from my point of view. Btw, I’m the editor of [ JOUEZ.com ] and [ JOUEZenfrancais.ca ] (which means Play in French). I wrote extensive articles about this in French. I hope this helps.

I really agree with this. As I'm getting older, and really surrounding myself with Quebecers and Quebec culture, I have really come to appreciate this place (or perhaps just Montreal). After living in the west for a short period of time, and traveling to places around the world, it was enough for me to understand that this place is special, and has this kind of soul which I don't feel elsewhere.

I am very aware of our shortfalls as a society, but fuck it, I love this place, and I have a deep respect for it. I dunno...I could go on, but whatever.

For all the haters: Suck a big fat French-Canadian dick.

I dunno if you would want to call it an All Out War, but there were conflicts going on between the Taliban and other factions that were going on for almost 10-years. I guess you could call it a Civil War.

What about games sold in other countries? Games in other countries are a translated into the language spoken by the people from that country, or are at least multi-lingual -such as in Europe (where games have the option of being played in a number of languages). It wouldn't make much sense in offering a game that isn't in the language spoken in that country, very much like it wouldn't make much sense in selling a book that is written in German to the Chinese.

I don't think you realize that 80% of the people in this province speak French as their first language. Have you considered them? Why should that have to play a game in English, and not French?

"Les jeux unilingues anglais seront toujours offerts s'il n'y a pas de version française équivalente. Qui plus est, rappelons que la plupart des jeux offerts en français sont bilingues, ce qui fait que ceux qui préfèrent jouer dans la langue de Shakespeare ne se sentiront pas trop dépaysés."

I really don't see the problem.

And by the way... If I ever met someone who insulted Quebec(ers), the way Laurent did a few posts ago, you better not say that shit to my face because I will beat the fucking shit out of you.

I've been curious about something, and I want to know if any of you guys get these. Lately, I've been having these dreams where I have a memory of other dreams that are come together to create another sort of "dream reality." What pretty much happens is that I'll be dreaming of a sort of ordinary situation (such as sitting on a couch with some friends), and then something or someone in my dream makes reference to something that happened in an older dream that I've had before.

For example, I dreamt that I was chilling out a friends place, and that we watch a video that was made on a cell phone from an old party. The thing is is that the party that we were watching was an old dream that I had, and I knew it, while I was dreaming! I could summon up the memory of the older dream in my dream, just like I could as if it happened in reality. It's literally being able to have an alternate set of memories in a dream world. It's really, really weird.

Anyways, I don't know if I'm explaining this properly, or if it's even interesting. Most dreams aren't interesting to anyone other than the person dreaming them.
