I was mention something but then I had a feeling if I did it would have been a Déjà vu. A little search and it turns out my feeling was right: [ www.rave.ca ]

There's little about me to mention except that when I listed to hardcore or other electronica music with lost of bass, I wish I had enough money to rent a place opened until sunrise and a sweet sound system.

I couldn't fathom the day where I wouldn't hate the aspirator sound of what mostly has very little to do with dub. But I just heard
Coki - Road Rage

and while it's nothing I'm looking forward to hearing again, I liked it.

It's not a better resolution, you just didn't know how to check the image I posted fully. If you click on the image in the OP, you should see just below:
Download: Original
Views: #

then clicking on Original should lead you to [ www.rave.ca ] which is as large as what you linked.

So look for "Original" just under images you like (on this site).

I truly wish this site would come back to life but AFAICT there's only 2 way to attract people to this site:
1) Have people find it when they're looking for a rave in Montreal and the other locations (Ottawa & Québec IIRC), or a community about it. That mean rank higher in the engine searches than other related sites. Including the dozens of bullshit sites out there, which are basically aggregator (not creating any content of their own).
2) Have a physical presence in the same places, so have the logo put on party flyers or have someone hand out something at the party.

But the biggest challenge is having people use & stay on this site. To make it so people are more interested in using this site than social media. I see this as an enormous challenge. This site was lucky enough that social medias didn't have a real presence after a few years of its existence; so it benefited to not having that extra competition (it still competed with other sites (as in having its own hosting, DB, code)). That level playing field, is what allow this site advantages amongst its peer to breakthrough, to shine.

Still the matter of fair competition, what I expressed is mostly to people of my age or a bit younger. Current mid-20s people probably had little experience of communities appropriating technologies themselves and when creating a new group, had always the reflex of using a social media to do so. I bet there's dozens of services or apps that cater to recreating most of what a site such as this has to offer but that a social media doesn't. So to people that see no benefit on having to use a site rather than just creating a group of their favorite social media, why would they bother asking their acquaintances to make an account on this site so they might share a common event, to signify their intent of presence?

This site would have to become so big that it would be easier so organizers or leading party-goers to create an event here in order to gauge the actual event attendance. I just don't see it happening from outside. I think the only chance of [ rave.ca ] able to get back some of its past activity is to cater to event organizers and in exchange to have some exclusivity; maybe an extra discount when people show attendance on this site, or get an extra promo mix, or a free sticker or something. To get the "I scratch your back, you scratch mine" mentality; so I think this site need to start scratching some backs in order to get some of its former vitality. Another way to do so would be to find very active people in the community that are willing to put extra effort on promoting this site.

I just don't see a regain in vibrance for this site without external factors, no matter how much more use friendly this site might become without having to resort to leeching on others site (like facebook did at first by asking ones email password to fetch all his/her contacts).

I'd like to help, but only if I see a real chance of success. You might want to split this thread to move posts like this to.

[ www.rave.ca ] bottom mention short-term activity. At 90 days, the #1 is 20 posts and fall down to 8 for #2. I posted an average of 1 post/month even though I check the board regularly.

I wouldn't put much effort developing a site like this, but I'd definitely keep it. People keep posting in [ www.rave.ca ] which is great, although more often then not it links to a facebook page instead of taking 3-4 minutes to make an entry in [ www.rave.ca ] People still post in [ www.rave.ca ] although more often than not it links to soundcloud or youtube instead of [ www.rave.ca ] ; section which all by itself is worth keeping. Although less popular there's interesting content in the member section with blogs, poems and the like. Mentioning poem, in addition to the previously mentioned music sharing service of this site, people used to post their visual artwork and often showed it in the forum which often people gave appreciative feedback. People used to upload non-rave-related images here, about their daily lives, often about fun activities which one could see in [ www.rave.ca ] and people used to comment and rate them and add them to their profile Gallery Photos (with the option Image In My Gallery). Some used to upload images (here) from other sites then shared it here, like Tumblr or Pinterest does nowadays.

So lots of past events with photos and sometimes a related post in [ www.rave.ca ] , lots of uploaded music and rave/party/fun-related pictures & images, lots of very active past forum threads. Many things that showed a vibrant rave & party community in Montreal and some activity outside, Quebec & Ottawa mostly IIRC. I think something would be lost if this site went offline.

It's too bad that people use facebook these times and I feel disconnected to the community which I enjoyed live on this site, but there's absolutely no way I'll contribute to a closed web.

People tend to gravitate around the win-win philosophy, she continues to make profit while giving money.

She has a right to pay herself minimum salary and deserve a profit, even if small, for risking bankruptcy or bad credit. She's to be paid while addressing clients + potential ones, when going to the post office (for business), while shopping for supplies, when promoting, etc. All of that is a lot of money, there's surely a limit to her rebates before there's no profit, or even worse, pay herself less than minimum.

make your unique custom version: buy a cheap sleeping bag, cut the cover then take out the stuffing, or whatever that usually white fluff is called ; a tubular lining is left, cut it so you have 2 tubes of the same length ; get cheap shorts of similar material (should be really cheap as the material suck), a little sewing will finish this up.

What could you do at night if you lived outside montreal without a car at night? If you had cable, you could watch old movies/series, not-so-intereting/sub-par programs or advertizing programs. If you didn't have cable but lived no-too-far from a big city, you had access to the former in a lesser number. If you didn't have cable but lived far from big cities, you'd be stuck with television Radio-Canada and once that late movie ended and you saw that great animation, and I'm not being sarcastic,
,
there would be a (television) test pattern for hours.

Beside TV, you could downgrade to audio-only, radio. If you were nearby a big city, you could be so lucky getting a student station playing "underground" music, although that was usually less than 2 hours per day per station on average, and but a few station broadcasted music your people liked. If you were outside big cities, you'd likely have to listen to 30+ programs. Also you could get AM radio, and because it was the night, there would be more stations but that was 40+ programs ; I was amazed in high laurentians we could listen to an American (USA) station.

In the early days of internet, or if you had access to a nice party"> ] line. I never used one of these but it looked no-so-good, I'm assuming it would end like local chats (IRC), lots of boring or excited/annoying people (I'm included in that but I don't try to entertain for hours on end) ; if it was 2000 and onward, you could find others to speak to online, the easier as the years went by.

Of course you could have loaned comic books, magazines and choose-your-own-adventure books/gamebook from a library.

Update » DynV wrote on Thu Apr 10, 2014 @ 12:46am
The following was cropped by the parsing after "had access to a nice" :

BBS, you could listen to MIDI files, and that usually meant you had access to a computer worth a lot of money ; having access to 150-500$ computer back then meant having something with the most basic functionalities ; still having access to a word processor with a printer was much better than having to use a typewriter as I had to.

maybe you can help me. I got to [ rutracker.org ] then click the big link at the bottom right under download, Скачать .torrent файл, it even has torrent in it, in Latin, not Cyrillic. I get to a page with some small message and a link back.

I don't understand any of it so I pop the URL into a translator and get [ translate.google.ca ] which basically does the same but I can understand the 2nd page
Download is possible only from the pages of the tracker.
Try to go to the page with the distribution , and click on the link to download the torrent file.
but still can't get either:
1) magnet link
2) hash code
3) a .torrent

you seem to have some mighty search skills. maybe you can get me an older album.

just like I bitch "constantly" I'll repeat "constantly" myself. I'm not about to promote a closed web. I'm pretty sure half facebook pages are private. not only are those pages offending to those who though internet was so great because EVERYONE could publish so easily, but those have a commercial advantage for the oh-so-generous site managers: only the marketers that pay have access to that closed content ; so their next 8-years-financed cars will have exactly what consumption addicted mindless people think is cool, twitter-reading software? right on! earning points to be a "mayor" on an app? there you go!

if/when facebook make a strictly-enforced policy of a minimum ratio for public content, I'll consider joining ; and we all know how morale are those people messing with privacy, exposing their users to trouble, those people would regulate themselves... the ratio that comes to mind is 80%. even 80% is pretty low to me, 90% would be more appropriate. at least 8/10 pages and 8/10 pictures would have to be public at all times.

I find closed-web offensive. I could make an analogy how facefuckbook is not simply the telephone to snail mail but I'm pretty sure you wouldn'T give a fuck about it anyway.

I remember the times when on TV news they spoke of web sites costing 100s of thousand $ and you'd think only large organizations could publish on the web. I then learned about geocities and xoom, that even the local failing cobbler could make a web page, I could see so much potential for the web. joining any site that promote keeping its content to itself is an affront to that mesmerizing I had early on discovering the web, back when the web wasn'T so much part of daily life.

how hard is it to have 2 different set of accounts, one you give to colleagues & family, one for your friends & debauchery acquaintances? you never log on your personal account at work nor school, you never give your "serious" account to a friend. with that super-complex scheme of having 2 set of accounts, almost everything you do can be public.
