I was looking at the upcoming parties, and thinking of the recent problems the scene had with the police, and to be honest, I like the way things are going. The scene did need a little cleaning up. Throwing parties became so easy everyone could do it. While we had a lot of parties coming up, the quality wasn't always there. Having parties every weekend isn't always good for the scene as well. It burns people up. A lot of ravers will go to every party, cause the scene is still pretty small, and they usually know the promoter or a couple of djs playing. Regular readers of this blog will remember that I believe the best is to go raving once every month, or even every 2 months. Less parties give people time to rest, and everyone can meet up at the big rave that happens once in a while. I do believe that with good promotion and quality line ups, we can actually see attendance go up.

Since the laws are harsher, parties have to be bigger in order to happen. Sure, smaller loft parties still happen, but they're more private parties than raves. Most of these are attended by friends of the promoters, and no real promotion is done. The "medium sized" parties don't happen anymore. These are the all local raves that happened every weekend. Sure, they were fun, but no one went to them all, except hardcore ravers and promoters who have to give out flyers. Big events are what makes the scene healthy. These have a bigger budget, and can afford to be 100% legal. Legal venues cost more, and are worth it for big parties.

Club events are also starting to happen more frequently. Parties that end at 3 have the advantage of selling alcohol, not risk the chance of being busted, and allow people to actually go on with their lives the day after. The same music can be played, it even opens up possibility, as they're cheaper to throw, and more energy can be put into the line up. Also, this can bring people who don't like staying up all night to the scene. After all, it's all about the music.

This is how I see the immediate future of our scene. Club events on a regular basis, and a really big rave once in a while. I'm happy with this turnout, we're actually starting to go the same way Europe went some years ago. Same music, but a more mature scene.
