 Coolness: 685530 | MP4 is a container in the same way as an MKV, and they're usually used for high-def video encoded in x264. It's also the most 'standard' HD container format for most DVD/BluRay/consoles. |

Yeah, but MP4 is a container that's often used to hold x264 encoded video, and x264 can be a little on the CPU intensive side. For example, an SD sub-480p video won't play properly on an old xbox, and that's got a 733mhz CPU. On Android, using the Touchpad as an example, using a software-decoder instead of the dedicated hardware chip, it can't play 720p video, and it's a dual-core CPU that's overclocked to 1.7ghz. It's a great codec, but if for some reason your hardware doesn't support acceleration it might not play back well, if at all. |
