Slug – Artist Profile – August 2008 Slug is the psytrance project of Liam Gibbs, an electronic music producer from Cape Town, South Africa. The Slug sound is powerful fusion of psytrance styles, offering a great cross-over between the twisted beats of the night, and the blissfull melodies of a daytime dancefloor. DJing psytrance since 1998, Liam began producing around the year 2000. In 2003, Chris Hoy (a.k.a Shift) approached Liam to create a few tracks for his newly formed record label's first release, which was planned to be a 3-5 track Slug CD "single". The new label was to be named "Nexus Media". This idea quickly turned into a full length 9 track collaboration featuring the original tracks for the Slug single, plus new remixes and collaborations between Shift and Slug (named "Penguin Rebellion"). Since then Slug has built a dedicated following of trance lovers around the world, with a total 5 albums to his name, a stack of single tracks released on various other labels, as well as gigging extensively both in South Africa and around the world. Liam is now also a co-owner of Nexus Media. The latest album "Hardwired" showcases Slug's unique interpretation of what drives a dancefloor. The tracks are based on a wide range of influences, with the results ranging from the blasting grooves of the Alpha Model through to the more classic full-on style of the Dayreamer. Next in line for Slug is a brand new Pitch Hikers album, more touring, and of course a fresh round of fat Slug stompers!
