In this thread, we talk about our health system.

Do you think it's becoming too big for it's own good ?

It's true that an increasing amount of ressources is injected, every year, into our health system.

And what about the legal aspect of some practices some of you might have witnessed in hospitals, namely keeping people against their own will or tying them to a chair or bed because they don't want to stay quiet, etc.

Any ideas of what could be done to improve our health system ?

So yeah, anything that's on your mind and that's related to our health system, please post it here !
I'm feeling mantastic right now..

Our health suystem fucking sucks... doctors should work independantly, keep receipts and charge the government directly, that way everyone would get the coverage they need and the doctors would have to earn their money properly.

Our health care system obviously has room for an improvement. But will we allow for those improvements has yet to be experienced, I guess.

I think IT IS becoming too big for its own good. Going to the doctor or going to the hospital has become practically the norm and it really ought not to be in some ways. It's almost as though we are existing to make hospitals exist as though that was a human beings purpose. As a city, a country, the human species most importantly, we ought to be investing in those things that really have a sustainable, lasting and absolutely good impact on our healths (lowering pollution levels even more, less medication, more natural means of achieving ends . Our health care system has loss 'a bit' it's direction, there's way too much pharmacuticals, life prolonging etc--

Also, it's always preferable to be your own doctor, not in the sense of being able to write yourself sick notes whenever you want, but not to be at the mercy of someone else seeming to know you better than you. We ought to all be educated on listening to our bodies and knowing what's good and not for ourselves. Part of being healthy is not relying on experts but being an expert youself/

Maybe if stupid people didn't go to the emergency or clinic for some minor stuff like migraine or a fucking cold. We wouldn't have such a clogged up system.

The main problem is in Quebec. I fucked up my ankle on thursday and spent 8 hours in the waiting room, and was never even given a tylenol. I appreciate that an ankle fuck is pretty low on the triage scale, but back in Ontario, a bad wait is 4 hours for a similar injury. Quebec's ministry of health has driven away all the QC trained doctors who leave to practice in Ontario or the US.

Although, if I go into a hospital for my usual athesma attack or alcohol poisoning, I go right in with no waiting. Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and BC are all similar in their wait times for those problems. Or system is okay, considering it's free, but the boomers will drain it of all its purpose. We're fucked.

That's not a healthcare problem, that's douchebag seperatists voting for retarded governments that can't balance balance a budge for their life forcing subsequent governments to have to make ridiculous cuts where they can't afford to make cuts.

Though I am not very convinced yet ;P j/k , i have faith that if humans all shared their thoughts, and feelings, and discussed amongst eachother; We could come out with some advantageous improvements to things such as health care system.

crises cardiaques: bad food, cigarettes and stress
etc, etc.
go back to the root of the problem and fix it before it happens. of fix it before it happens more. pills can help but it's the habits that we must change to really fix a disease. and since it's a society problem, this is where we must change. collective consciousness shift or something.

The system is far from perfect, but honestly it works. I will be the first to admit we lack doctors and we need more funding but at least its available to everyone regardless of insurance or coverage.

Having a proper balanced budget would be nice, but while we're on pipe dreams I'd like a pony.

MORE funding?!!? It's over 50% of the whole freaking budget... I say CUT funding. Let the sick die.. if that's me, so be it. Put that money into education, science grants and medicinal marijuana.

The total revenue is somewhere in the ballpark of 56 Billion. The healthcare budget is 22.1 billion, its a huge chunk of the budget by socialized medecine is expensive and its not just the pills and chemicals. The equipment is expensive, competeing against a tough market for doctors, not to mention making it very hard to certify doctors who immigrate here from other countries or provinces.

I phrased my last comment wrong, we need a more balanced look at medicare and more importantly how much of that 22.1 billion is actually going to help the underfunded hospitals and not just inflating pencil pushers salaries, but it's still the best system we have, we shouldn't let the sick die if we can prevent it.

I don't mind the system but I have private insurance for dental, eyes, and most medications (from father's work). If I didn't I would have a much worse opinion.

Its been 6 years now i cant get an appointment to go for blood tests and a physical. I "high risk" for cancer since it has killed my grand father, uncle, father etc. Can i get an appointment? no. I almost had one last january, then they canceled it and rescheduled it for last July... which got canceled again by the doctors office and this time never rescheduled.

I have siatica and chronic lower back pain yet I still can not get an apointment.

The only ppl that get what they need when they need it are the ones making 100k/year and can afford to go private.
I'm feeling like goin back 2 bed right now..
