Well, you guys certainly deserve to know what's going on with Project Mayhem now. As it stands, I don't have the money or the time to throw another event. This doesn't rule out the possibility of future associations, or club nights. To be perfectly honest, I don't feel like drawing a strict plan of what's going to happen in the future, but I do have ideas in mind. Just like Samwise, I'll be more then happy to give out tips to new promoters. You can't learn how to throw a good rave by going to school (anyone remembers General Dee?), so it's every experienced promoter's job to make sure the new generations learn from them.

As for the party itself, I'm glad you guys loved it, and that Samwise was able to end the legacy in such an awesome way. I have to admit, I never thought Raves'r'us would become this big when I threw the first one 2 years ago. Good job to everyone involved.

I stopped reading [ rave.ca ] a long time ago, except on those rare occasions like right now when I'm really, really bored. The main reason for this is the lack of moderation, making this board a troll paradise with nothing but drama threads and almost no intelligent discussion. I know for a fact I'm not the only one who thinks like that.

Honestly, I'm not that interested in the rave scene anymore, but I will encourage everyone who's truly interested in talking to other ravers online in a moderated environment to start a facebook group about the Montreal rave scene. (Or join one if someone already created it.) If having a message board without trolls and random drama is that important to you guys, promoting a facebook group shouldn't be that hard or expansive, especially since you can promote it here as much as you want, Noah won't care.

It all depends on the crowd and genre of music. While psy trance favors longer sets, genres like happy hardcore can easily manage with more djs playing 1h each.

-Don't overcharge, no one should pay 20$ to listen to a bunch of locals.

-Promote the fuck out of your event.

-Promote the fuck out of your event.

-Make a checklist before the party, just to make sure you don't forget anything. No toilet paper at a rave is not cool!

-Don't forget about lights. For some reason, people always forget about that in Montreal.

-Promote the fuck out of your event.

-Have your line up and time slots make sense please. Happy Hardcore and Psy Trance back to back is not a good idea. Keep in mind people have to keep dancing from one set to the other.

-Get djs who can mix properly. I know you all want to give your friends a chance, but you're not helping them if everyone laughs at them for not being able to beatmatch.

-Don't sell drugs at your own event, ever.

-Don't let Le_D MC at your rave, he tries that when he gets drunk. :p

-Don't call a loft party a rave. If you're going to have a party in your kitchen with a few friends mixing, that's cool, but don't promote it as "T3h r4v3 of t3h summ3r" please.

-Promote the fuck out of your event.

-Try not to book the same djs we hear all the time, get a few out of towns, or one of those amazing locals we don't get to hear all the time. They're some awesome djs out there who just happen not to post here and spam promoters with emails.

-Value the raver's opinion. They're your customers, and you should give them what they like.

Alright, posting late, but I do feel I should add my thoughts on the subject. First of all, I'll be straightforward. I don't go to loft parties because I don't enjoy them. A few are fun, like the In Da Jungle parties a few years ago, but a lot I just find boring. My argument isn't about personal preference but about what's good for the scene as a whole.

Loft parties must be advised as such. It's ok for people to go there and have fun, and it's ok to ask for money in order to rent the soundsystem, pay the loft owner so he can have his place cleaned at the end, etc. The important part is what Lone Star originally said, Partygoers should know what they're paying for in advance. We're not in the 90s anymore. Raving, or all night partying, or whatever the hell you want to call it, is a business now, and customers have plenty of options to choose.

Just imagine you're a kid who's never been to a rave. You decide to try it out, and end up in someone's kitchen, with no place to dance and a bad sound system. What do you think your opinion of raves will be? Those events should be advertised as what they are, an occasion to chill with some friends while listening to local djs. After all, can we really classify parties at 1619 in the same category as events such as Rewire or Little Plastic Castle? (Both high quality events, probably some of the ones I had the most fun at lately.)

Now, I'm not pointing fingers, but I totally agree with what Lone Star said about loft parties/house parties in general.
