Djing/producing since 1997, Toronto-born accomplice, draws inspiration from his early days of partying in warehouses and even earlier days of listening to Run DMC while chilling on the stoop. Initially concentrating solely on the sounds of jungle/drum and bass, in recent years accomplice has been inspired by prolific and seemingly unlimited artists such as fellow crew member Mat the Alien. Now with a vastly expanded repertoire, rather than playing a genre, accomplice focuses on orchestrating the atmosphere of the venue. Not forgetting his roots, expect to hear a seamless mix of jungle/drum and bass, hip hop, dancehall, dub, reggae, breaks, 2step, garage, and dubstep.

Having previously held down residencies with iDJ, and Junglist Fridays at Blue Dog, both in Montreal, and also frequently booked in Ottawa, Toronto, and New York, accomplice is now associated with the Breakbeat Massive and presently residing in Seoul, South Korea. Regularly featured at one off events in and around Seoul, accomplice is also a monthly resident at the legendary Vinyl Underground in Busan, and a resident of Konkrete Jungle Seoul at Club Cargo.

With a forthcoming release on North American ragga jungle label, Celestial Conspiracy Recordings, an album in the works, and recently signed to stateside dubstep label, Substruk Recordings, accomplice is an artist not to be slept on.

Born in Montreal, Canada, Nitrous (also know as D-Joos) grew up listening to a wide range of different music (Hip-Hop, Metal, Grunge, Punk, Rock). He was first exposed to electronic music in the early 90's through the now infamous Goldie track, Inner City Life. This is where everything changed for him, slowly starting buying vinyls and first spinning House and Techno music. He later made the big switch and started spinning exclusively Drum and Bass. In 1999, he created his own production company called “Kracked Knuckles”, doing small and intimate dnb events in Montreal. He later founded the “In Da Jungle” production company with Dj`s Galaksy and Axionfigga, that created Havoc in the Montreal dnb scene for over 5 years, bringin` only the best dnb dj`s in town, in the likes of John B and Klute. Nitrous is now well established in the Montreal dnb scene, havin` played alongside many international dj`s by the likes of Concord Dawn (NZ), Kemal (UK), Klute (UK), John B (UK), Panacea (Germany), Digital (UK), Juju (USA) and The Upbeats (NZ).

I really like being the co-host my own radio show with Rhys Taylor called Your Radio is Broken on CKUT 90.3 FM. Saturday mornings from 4 to 6 am for almost 5 years now! There is something quite magical about broadcasting deep and heavy electronic grooves over the radio waves that travel through time and space. Especially when it is music that your friends, or even yourself have created. It resonates with the universal ether for the rest of time. Thanks to all of you who listen. I've recently incorporated using my computer with Ableton Live and an Akai MPD 24 controller into my Dj sets. It's opened up a whole new world of music and mixing possibilities. The best part about it is that I have not had to give up djing with actual vinyl records!
I also like to go see my boy Poontz at Laika on Saturdays. He invites me to come and play music sometimes, which is totally awesome! Big up all the family over there.

The Rising
DJ Mana a.k.a. Annam Le has been DJing since 1993, inspired by his brother DJ Flee and friend Rob Brown. He mixed house and techno until 1998, when Sevin introduced him to the art of turntablism. Mana learned most of the fundamentals of turntablism by watching DJs like Q-Bert, D-Styles, Mix Master Mike, A-Trak, Beat Junkies, and the X-Ecutioners. With the help of his early colleagues P-Love, Killa-Jewel, Spazmodik, and Scream, Mana trained hard to hone his turntablist skills. Among his first public appearances were performances at Tableturns, various hip-hop concerts such as Swollen Members and Mr. Lif, and a residency at Blue Dog. The turn of his career took place when he first entered the DJ battle arena in 1999.



Battling
Mana's first battle was the 1999 ITF Montreal Elimintaion. Although he lost to DJ Matrix, the experience pushed Mana to practice even harder for upcoming battles. He joined Nocturnal Sound Krew in Hawaii in 2000. This group pushed him to practice hard for the DJ battles. The following years earned him winning titles including the 2000 ITF Montreal Champion, 2002 National Vestax Extravaganza 2nd Place, 2002 KoolMixx Hawaii Champion, 2002 Import Revolution Hawaii Champion, 2003 Montreal DMC Champion,, and 2004 Montreal DMC Champion. During this time, Mana began working with members of ICM Records, a hip-hop collective based in Montreal. In 2004, Mana retired from the battle scene to pursue musical endeavors.

The Musical Path
Mana founded Soul Mechanics DJ School in the summer of 2004. His endeavor was to demystify and spread the language of turtablism. In late 2005, he formed a group called Microtone Kitchen, a scratch band that applies classical music theory to turntablism and fuses with tonal instruments like guitar and keyboards. The members of the band include Killa-Jewel, Praiz, Midas, Panda-Zal, Johnny Know1, and Atsu Mana is currently composing songs and performing with the band, preparing to release the debut album.

originally from Hamilton, I started learning how to spin in 99/2000 in Toronto...

I love all good music, but really wanted to resurrect the original jungle sound that I used to hear on mixtapes and at the mad parties I used to hit in T.O. back in in the early 90s..

Before jungle my main sound was the hip hop of the early 90s, and it still is. My first exposure to hardcore jungle was the original man Dr. No - a Toronto legend and founder of the scene - who was later deported back to London England.

While tripping hard on LSD at my house, a friend threw on this Dr No dark jungle CD called "Voyage To The Centre of Your Mind". It was the most mental music I had ever heard. Something clicked in my brain and I never looked back. After that night I started going to Toronto on weekends to catch this sound live.

back then it was all about Dr. No, Medicine Muffin, Marcus, Ruffneck, Mystical Influence, Sniper, Sigma 7 (founder of Syrous), and the one Jungle Phd

they were the first ones in North America to bring the UK badmen over to play - Goldie - Rufige Kru in 92, Slipmaster J, Andy C, Darren J, Phantasy, DJ Hype, Kenny Ken, Trace, krome & Time - the list goes on.

anyone who was at those parties knows the deal - they were dropping brand new jungle selection for the first time outside of England.

The vibe and the music was insane and really changed a lot of peoples' lives

After mid-95 the sound and vibe changed dramatically and became... not so good. As far as I was concerned, the new breed of DJs and music were nothing compared to the original Dons. Frankly I felt the scene had been taken over by wiggers with very bad taste in music.

I went looking for DJs and mixtapes with the old styles, but people told me that those records were "extinct".

I was so disappointed by the direction the music and scene had taken that eventually I had to take matters into my own hands.

so, in 99 I reached out to the foundation crew in England. I linked with old pirate radio DJs, label owners, producers, DJs and collectors - and I've been pushing that original hardcore/jungle on wax ever since.

I have also been sourcing and selling oldskool vinyl online from the get-go. I can find just about anything - no matter how rare - quickly and at a reasonable price

Over the years I've been down and am still down with many cliques and crews in Toronto, England and all over ...but I only get down with real soundmen.. the people who actually spend years paying dues pushing proper underground music.

I only recognize the real, so I ain't down with no ice cream sound.

I will not work or associate with any type of shallow fraudulent sheisty people... which rules out a lot of players in any scene.

In 2002 DJ Saigon approached me looking for a partner to throw ragga-jungle jams, and so we started Front Left Productions. At our first jam we brought in Demolition Man and his MC crew and it really went off. We threw an anniversary jam a year later. At this point I realized it wasn't so much my style, and Saigon carried on Front Left himself with great success.

I got involved with a UK Internet station in 2002 called InterFACE. It had been around for ages and at peak times we had 1000s of hits on the site. Myself, DJ Dara of Breakbeat Science, Maxx Vinyl, Moody & Rizzla rinsed out oldskool hardcore and jungle every Tuesday. Those guys are serious selectors, so it was an honour to work with them and also a great way to hone my skills live on air.

I am part of the original Illegal Sound Crew out of Toronto (Sixteenarmedjack, C-Rat, Frankie Gunns, Recoil and MC Enlight), and was part of the now-finished AMP crew (Medicine Muffin, Recoil, Frankie Gunns, Spyda Brown and Pastafari).

I've been booked alongside and back 2 back with some of the best DJs in Toronto at all sorts of clubs, lounges, warehouse jams, outdoor festivals, loft parties and art shows.

I moved to Montreal in August 2007.

I spin oldskool breakbeat techno, breakbeat ardcore, oldskool jungle / drum & bass ... darkside, hardcore, ragga, atmospheric ... oldskool hiphop, house - anything good...

I can easily play the anthems if that's what the crowd is feelin,
but I am happiest when I get to fling down the underground selection.

Where did you get your DJ Name from?

Some time back in 2002 a lot of times when I'd work on tracks, I would do it after watching a horror movie (or even a few times, while I was watching it. Dual monitor setup is t3h pwn)

So I was fucking around with Acid, and was doing a breaks remix of my favorite hard acid tune, Brain #31-Tinnitus, while watching Army of Darkness, just as more of a background thing so that I can keep getting distracted and never tire of focusing too much on what I'm doing.

In the middle of working on it, I loaded up a new drum loop, right as Ash says "Now listen up, you primitive screwheads. See this? This... is my boomstick! ", and my CPU froze up for a second (I had a P3/550 with 128 megs ram) and my media player stuttered on the workd Screwhead, but what I was playing in acid was still going and it ended up beatmatched so that Screwhead was skipping on beat and Boomstick hit right when the track dropped.

I went and googled it and found no other Dj or producer by the name of Screwhead (Spooky, The Spookshow and Nothing were already used by people)

Drum 'n Bass mainly, with a little hardcore, hard acid and hip hop on occaision.

Been producing since mid-late 1996, though nothing worth mentioning.
Been mixing with MP3s since about the same time, just making mix tapes to listen to on my walkman that consisted of metal, goth rock, industrial and EBM.

**DJ BOWZER (OTT)

Bowzer started off his DJ career in early 2002, mixing genres such as Drum & Bass, Hardcore and Breaks. It was in mid 2006 that he began growing tiresome of the D&B scene, and started looking for a new style to pursue. After being turned on to a new sound called Grime, shortly after that he found Dubstep.

With a new excitement in the sound, Bowzer started producing his first tracks in late 2006. They were well received, and just over a year later he had releases with DZ on Black Acre Records & Mugwell Bill. With more releases in the works, the future is looking big!

DJ BUS is a new-comer to Montreal however he's no new-comer to British street music. He earned his stripes pushing Grime and Dubstep in Ontario and moved to Montreal in September 2008 to start E.S.L. Production's, the company responsible for "MTL FUNKY" which plans to continue with Dubstep, Garage and Bassline events in the future.

DZ (San Fransisco - badmanpress)

DZ is a Dubstep DJ/Producer based out of San Francisco, CA, via Canada’a capital city, Ottawa. Recently featured in ATM Magazine’s “Leaders of the Nu Skool” segment, and currently smashing dancefloors worldwide with his infectious bassline-driven tracks “Down” and “Old Timers”, DZ is as driven to succeed as they come. His style has been described as “B-Boy swagger with Rave sensibilities” and his tracks are filled with body shaking subs, heavy drum breaks and witty call-and-answer high end melodies. With a release schedule to be envied and a back catalogue of dubs to last months (and months), DZ brings an element to the dance that pays tribute to the early days of rave by playing a wide array of styles in his sets.

He currently has releases on & forthcomings from Scuba, Black Acre, LoDubs, OffRoad, True Tiger, Aufect, Slit Jockey, Dubkraft, Dubstep Division, Mugswell Bill, RogueDubs, Middle School, Rottun & Bass Tourist, and has just finished a special promotional rmx of Jokers of the Scene’s “Baggy Bottom Boys” forthcoming on Fool’s Gold Records which is bound to garner him alot of attention from a much wider audience going into 2009. As 2008 wraps up, DZ has seen his track “Down” (out on True Tiger Recordings TTR013) in the top 10 downloads of the Beatport Dubstep section over the last 10 weeks (as of 13/ 10/08), with 4 of those weeks in a row occupying the number one position. Last but not least, his own imprint (Badman Press Recordings) is soon to drop distributed through Nu-Urban, with the 001 being the long-awaited "Break It Down" and the straight up party bit "How We Do". Where he finds the time to breathe is a kind of mystery, and if you ask anyone that knows him, they will most likely tell you that he is really a machine from another planet. He probably is.

C’est en 1996 que j’ai découvert la musique électronique, mais ce n'est que 5 ans plus tard que j’ai démarré ma carrière de DJ. J’ai débuté en jouant principalement des styles comme le acid et le hard techno jusqu'à ce que je découvre des résonances beaucoup plus brutales qui me collaient parfaitement à la peau: le terrorcore. Le son hardcore français dans son ensemble est ce qui m’inspire le plus dans le mixage et la composition. J’ai eu la chance de jouer avec plusieurs grands du hardcore comme Radium, Lenny Dee, Endymion, Manu Le Malin, Hellfish, DJ Delirium pour ne nommer que les plus imposants.
