I feel very lucky to have found SMERK ;^) in 2002 which introduced me to Peter (aka DJ Marquis) and Duncan (aka DJ Skeeter) and I fell in love with their sound and style and subsequently the underground tekno, freetekno, and breakcore scenes in Toronto. Peter gave me a copy of his first demo which was was dark, industrial, hardcore with some bouncy bits and beautiful melodies. I loved his twisted sense of humour and incredible ability to connect with people. His songs with simple honest lyrics and popthat seemed very strange next to the hard and fast angry music from DJs like C64, Skeeter, Plague, Nwodtlem, etc but still it totally fit and became a sort of cultural phenomenon

I discovered SMERK ;^) in 2002 which introduced me to Peter (aka DJ Marquis) and Duncan (DJ Skeeter) and I fell in love with their sound, style, fuck-off attitudes, and subsequently the underground tekno, freetekno, and breakcore scenes in Toronto. I faithfully attended every SMERK party, and signed my membership as SMERK SLUT 4 LIFE... and enjoyed sitting in the sideroom at Resistor (at the Big Bop) watching the psy goths walk through the door confused at the harsh speedcore and breakcore sounds, and then turn around and leave.

Peter gave me a copy of his first demo which was was dark, industrial, hardcore with some bouncy bits and beautiful melodies. I played that CD nearly every day for years till I was worried it had worn out. It had a sort of intoxicating love sickness that I couldn't get enough of. I loved his twisted sense of humour... my fav track on that disk is "Not a God" which he told me was made using a sample of a girl getting fucked in the ass.

His next release, Perverted and Proud was totally different and contained songs with simple lyrics, surprisingly pop-like downtempo "girly" music, and seemed very strange next to the hard fast and angry music from DJs like C64, Knifehandchop, Skeeter, Plague, Nwodtlem, ...but still it totally worked, and became a sort of cultural phenomenon. I'll never forget the IV lounge show, which was the first time I'd seen him and Carl and Jesse put on wigs and play as a band. The tiny bar was packed to the tits and as soon as they went on the place erupted and everyone was screaming along to the songs, moshing and thrashing in total chaos.

Every BDK show after that was like an attempt to relive and revive that feeling and sense of connectedness we shared... singing and moshing to "Yeah Hell Yeah" and "Baby's Gone Away" with everyone together was a sort of nostalgic inside joke shared with everyone and anyone who wanted to be part of it. and it wasn't just BDK shows, we sang when other DJs played BDK tracks... and when BDK CD's were played on road trips, and kitchen parties, living room dance parties in Montreal.... for years BDK was a connection not just with Peter but with an entire community of friends and freaks around the world. This connection will carry on and Peter will live forever in our memories and hearts.

BDK also told a story that noone wants to hear... the bitch he couldn't pitch, the pain and miserable reality of drug addiction and it's grip on many of us. The way he sang about this vulnerable gaping wound many can see in ourselves and around our scene in a way that made it almost tangible and was absolute pure genius. As if we were all fucking and loving the same whore.

We have lost an amazing artist, a cultural icon, and a true friend.

hmm... could cut up some cheap walmart rubber shit and glue it together, liquid latex some extra gore, some fake blood, a pair of fishnets... totally possible, if you have time and a little improvisation. Could also do it the long hard way and mould your own. Either way, I would rather be making strap-ons with teeth than sitting behind a desk.

I was using Etsy to list the things I had for sale... (note the empty sidebar area "FOR SALE" heh) I sold a couple bustiers cross the border, and got some people asking for custom sizes. But the remaining listings expired last month and I haven't relisted... will probably do it again, but increase the prices so I can do custom orders for the same price as the samples listed. Pricing on Etsy is kind... desperate and extremely competitive. Anyhow most of the stuff I sell/give/trade to friends and people I meet.

Those stuffies are super cute, but not mine... those were "Inspiration". This is one I made [ fukglam.com ] ... and I gave that bunny to a friend who let us stay in her loft in NYC for a weekend back in June.

oh ya pricing... that's pretty impossible to estimate without any details (fabric, pieces, time required, etc)

I have sewn for over 20 years. I was doing wedding dress detailing when I was 15. I worked in a costume house for both seasonal costumes, mascots, and theatre for two years after that. I made club kid and raver outfits for years. And I have done sewing for designers in Toronto and Montreal. I was a resident in an artist-run store on Queen West last year and was making and selling altered, screen printed, refinished, and custom made clothing. I've also done jeans with secret pockets for drug dealers and silk covered pillows for an interior decorator. I've made vinyl curtains with metal fence post tops for loops, even sewed a 40' tarp for a yurt once. Recently I've been making corsets/bustier-belts. Made 10 so far, working on the 11th, sold 4 so far. Waiting for photos of them... from Burning Man and the other her photographer has some problem with his memory card. Today I'm finishing a pair of jean shorts for my neighbour... later some leather cuffs with the genuine snakeskin I ordered from Texas.

Sewing is just something I do. I didn't go to school for it. I don't have a portfolio.

same directions as 3 years ago... and yeh they are confusing, and if you arrive in the dark you are for sure going to have a harder time. but nobody bothers to update the directions so they stay the same.

for promo, last year the same people complain that there was not enough people but I didn't see any promo by them till just days before. I was asking for help with the website and promo since February.

anyhow... I had a fucking blast. thank you everyone for another wicked teknival to remember... really awesome surprise to see Weskodyne from Toronto, and at least half the Ghettoblast crew from Ottawa, nice to meet the Alweezgroovin crew from Ottawa, and of course the NTK with their hot dog. was like a big happy family reunion... was not as good weather this year, but instead of a sunburn I have a sprained ankle. whooot

props to alweezgroovin crew who had stickers and tshirts made, posted the event on raveca, went up to check out the site in advance and posted new directions here and on facebook... they seemed to have it sorted out and got a pretty good turnout from ottawa. where's my sticker? haha

it wasnt a big difference from last year tho really... but it felt a little less exciting to be at the same spot again, as awesome as it is. so I hope there is a new place next year...
