This isn't just a "knee-jerk freak-out". It's more about getting rid of an antiquated policy that currently hurts more than it helps.



The problem with your reasoning here is that it's not about whether you have anal sex with someone (because otherwise straight people wouldn't be allowed to give blood either...) but rather if you have UNPROTECTED SEX with other people.

Again sex without protection (a condom) is what propagates the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, not specifically homotastic ass-fucking.



There are indeed questions that target the things you brought up, but for straight people there's a limit to how long ago they had unprotected sex that bars them from donating blood. That limit isn't as ridiculous as 1977.



Do you honestly think heterosexual women can ONLY get HIV from sleeping with a man that has had sex with another man or intravenous drug users? How do you explain a lesbian getting HIV when they have never slept with a man or someone who has never had sexual contact with an IDU?

Your stats aren't looking at the whole picture. Still, to this day, the largest group of HIV carriers globally are young adult women. In North America specifically, the biggest group that carries HIV are indeed men who have sex with other men, but even that is a small percentage of the entire population of men who have sex with men.

The reason why this policy is considered so discriminatory is because it targets gay men regardless of whether their sexual practices are better or worse than their straight counterparts. It is considered outdated because technology is loads more advanced than when HIV first came around and they did not know how to screen blood, testing procedures were not that reliable and it was more expensive. These days cost is not an issue, ALL donated blood is tested rigorously and the tests are 99% accurate.

Also not to be tootin' my own horn but I am a gay man, I have a (let's say) prosperous sex life and compared to the majority of my straight friends I practice safer sex more often than they do (both guys and girls). So why is it that they can give blood when technically they're a bigger risk than I am? Heck I even get tested once every 6 months because just knowing your serological status is prevention in itself. Most people I know haven't been to the clinic to get tested for STIs not even ONCE in their lives and have been sexually active for years AND have not always had sex with a condom or other forms of protection.

I was suprised when they announced last summer's reunion thing. It kinda took away from the All Good Things supposedly being the "last" one (was still a fawking awesome party though). Frolic would be better off making this like an every 5 year thing or something to make it just a little more special ;)

Sol pretty much sums it up right there. I didn't work at Babel for too long but when I did I had a great time. Thankfully I quit when I did because I heard nothing but horror story after horror story about the crap that went on there from multiple people, still working there and not.

I was going to work this morning and I was still glowing from the happyness that ensued from attending this party. It was THAT good.

Yeah all the lasers were awesome with all of the snowflakes hanging from the ceiling. Simple deco but very effective nevertheless. It all looked and sounded great (despite some sets being a bit too loud ;P)

I need to get back into Bleach. I watched the first 10 episodes and then just stopped. Now it's at 100+ episodes, wouldn't hurt to have another long running series to watch other than Naruto.

I feel for ya, but I stopped watching for that year+ of filler and got back on board once the new season started.

Since I loved Love Hina so much I decided to DL another Ken Akamatsu series called Mahō Sensei Negima! I've only watched one episode but I don't think it will have the charm Love Hina did.

I should look into Death Note though...
