Les DJ qui ne sont pas des artistes ne sont pas interessant; alors, je pence que c'est ok de ne payer pas les DJ qui jouaient seulement pour entendant la music... mais pour les artistes qu'essayer de fair plus que ca, ils devaient quelque chose pour lui appui dans cette culture. // (Please excuse my probably poor writing...) // This brings up a far more interesting topic for me.... Do you hold that DJs are not artists? Further, what is their categorical function? :-) // Addendum: I deleted my last post before reading Psychotik's reply there 'cause I thought it to be inappropriate since I'm not involved with this event here... however, the statement that DJs are not artists made me pause. My position on this issue is that artists ought be paid for their work, particularly in the case of regular work like this weekly event here where, through experience, it often takes more work as an artist/DJ. This is because to maintain an audience at a venue on a regular basis, it requires an insane amount of track hunting and creative work ahead of time to keep everything fresh, interesting, and worthwhile not only in terms of dollars, but also in terms of time and energy. So in the case of professionals (where professional means one who makes a living off their skill), why would they burn themselves and their crowd out for a drink when they stand to gain more from fewer, though more significant, appearances? Consider how with dollars, the artist is actually able to invest into the music (tracks, hardware, software, events...) for producing and promoting better music. I'm sure this event here was a nice party, cool, but the suggestion of there being some pretense here is unhelpful. Hey, wait, didn't Hexa-5 already play this event two weeks ago? ... There's a lot of young DJ's/Artists in town who I'm sure would like to have a shot and would be happy playing for free -- why not ask them instead of asking for favours from the established talent? :-p

Sur lautre suget un dj cé pas un artist, on passe des bonnes tounes de maniere bien arrangé... Pis quand tu joue dans un party gratis ben jtrouve que c'est pas mal prétentieux de demander d'etre payé... Si tout le monde penserait de meme yaurais jamais rien de gratis, jai eu plus de fun hier un mardi soir gratis a l'escalier que dans un bon paquet des dernier partys que jai payé pour aller...

I didn't quite understand the situation.. And I am a little let down.. Not all djs pay for free. Especially the ones that pay for their music. Some djs can't play the music that they buy for free, and what kind of dj would only rely on djing? Of course they need to work! How else could they afford food, sound, and highs? XD

Personnellement, jtrouve ya aucunes raison de demander quoi que se soit pour jouer a une soirée gratis un mardi soir, soirée super cool, sans aucune prétentions qui fait plaisir a tout le monde qui on envie de tripper ... c'est gratis pis on est ben contant que ça le soit... En plus on a droit a deux bieres! J'trouve ça ben correct... Si un dj veut du cash ben get a job... Pis cé pas débile de laver son vieux linge sale en public de meme... appellez-vous batard ;)

Before everbody get confused about the litle incident. I will explain what happend. I told Jesse that i wont be able to pay him the price is asking but i minimum contribution of 25$ which is good for a dj.(I am a professional muscicien and i barely get that much for my time) So we dint put out Hexa-5 of the line-up he decide that 25$ + 2 beers was not enough for is set. So is the one that took the decision to not come. I am sorry Jesse for the inconvenient but you know i cant aford what you ask i told you last week Hope that you understand Michael
