What could you do at night if you lived outside montreal without a car at night? If you had cable, you could watch old movies/series, not-so-intereting/sub-par programs or advertizing programs. If you didn't have cable but lived no-too-far from a big city, you had access to the former in a lesser number. If you didn't have cable but lived far from big cities, you'd be stuck with television Radio-Canada and once that late movie ended and you saw that great animation, and I'm not being sarcastic,
,
there would be a (television) test pattern for hours.

Beside TV, you could downgrade to audio-only, radio. If you were nearby a big city, you could be so lucky getting a student station playing "underground" music, although that was usually less than 2 hours per day per station on average, and but a few station broadcasted music your people liked. If you were outside big cities, you'd likely have to listen to 30+ programs. Also you could get AM radio, and because it was the night, there would be more stations but that was 40+ programs ; I was amazed in high laurentians we could listen to an American (USA) station.

In the early days of internet, or if you had access to a nice
If you wanted to talk to multiple people at-a-time, and it was before 2000, you could always call a [
party"> ] line. I never used one of these but it looked no-so-good, I'm assuming it would end like local chats (IRC), lots of boring or excited/annoying people (I'm included in that but I don't try to entertain for hours on end) ; if it was 2000 and onward, you could find others to speak to online, the easier as the years went by.

Of course you could have loaned comic books, magazines and choose-your-own-adventure books/gamebook from a library.

The following was cropped by the parsing after "had access to a nice" :

BBS, you could listen to MIDI files, and that usually meant you had access to a computer worth a lot of money ; having access to 150-500$ computer back then meant having something with the most basic functionalities ; still having access to a word processor with a printer was much better than having to use a typewriter as I had to.
I'm feeling <3 sexi_babe_69 right now..

I saw an ad on Craigslist not so long ago and some guy wanted to have phone sex. Pictures of people doused in spray-net calling party lines warped my mind.

Anyway. There was Brave New Waves! With the ever luscious Patty Schmidt. I used to sleep with the radio when I was just a baby werewolf (still am), and I'd switch stations during the night. Brave New Waves was a lot like Stereophobic meets Underground Sounds meets City Sounds Underground. It used to play nightly between midnight and 4:00 AM. I used to get shit scared as listening to it, but I used to listen to it anyway.

I still get scared listening to Stereophobic. Love that shit. Still sleep with music, too.

Ron Fournier on CKAC 730 was THE show at night. I remember listening to Expos Games on the radio too.

Before the internet, it was BBSes.

Before that, playing AD&D, Shadowrun, catching up on reading, or trying to catch horror movies or scrambled porn.
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..
