As many of you probably know, Sphongle is coming out with a new CD "The Ineffable Mysteries of Sphongleland." This was recently leaked (8 tracks). I've had a listen. Pretty awesome!

Just curious what other people think!

I think my favourite track is "Ineffable Mysteries of Sphongleland." None of them really stood out to me except for that one on the first time through the tracks.
I'm feeling electrypnose whhhhha right now..

Thank you forum police! I thought about putting it in the music production section, but was unsure. ;)

Hi Pat! :D

I don't personally have the link for it. Sorry! I got it from a friend. I'm sure if you search you can find it.

Yes, I agree it isn't the best I've heard from Shpongle. There doesn't seem to be any stand-out hits like "Divine Moments of Truth." The tracks may not be all of them on the actual release though.

"Tales of the Inexpressible" is still my favs. :3

Really like the fact that they gave more attention to bass than they did in the past. Gives it an atmosphere closer to dub/psybient sometimes. Wich is why I usually prefer Bluetech and Ott to Shpongle.

Thoughts? If you like it, buy it instead of downloading the pirated copy. Twisted Records is not doing too well financially, and imo if any artist deserves your money it is Simon Posford.

Go here for more details: [ psyreviews.net ]

Go [ www.twistedrecords.co.uk ] to drop 11.93$ Canadian to buy an actual copy of the CD.

Feel free to have such utopian philosophical ideals, but when it comes down to it you are not giving anything back to this artist in exchange for the musical experience he/they have provided for you, and to me that's pretty lame. Shpongle isn't really a touring act, and seeing as how they can barely recoup the expenses for the production of a CD that I'll sure thousands of people will enjoy, I don't see them being able to mount a huge tour.

Put it this way...prior to filesharing Simon and Raj were able to sustain themselves off of record sales. Now that every person who enjoys their music simply downloads a free copy, they can't.

This is direct from Simon on the Twisted forums:
"So some fucker has released the album on the internet already…. thanks a lot, whoever it was… Maybe twisted will still recoup, maybe not… all i know is that we are teetering on bankruptcy, and are seeking deals elsewhere…. the 12 loyal fans on this forum are not enough to sustain a record label…. How much do you think Twisted has in the bank account? Have a guess? More than $10,000 ? More than $20,000 ? Well it is actually less than $1,000….. Raj and i haven’t even been paid our advance for this album…. All the artists on twisted are seeking deals with other labels now… We can’t pay a label manager, and we can’t pay the artists…. always putting our hope in ‘just ONE more release’.... “We’ll be ok if the DVD sells”....“Surely the Shpongle CD will sell, right?”

If you really can't afford the 20$ it would cost to order a copy of the CD and support the artist then I understand. But honestly, for the majority of people that's a couple of beers at the bar one night. For me personally I'm willing to spend one night sober in exchange for supporting an amazing artist and getting a genuine physical copy of an album.
I'm feeling focused right now..

Maybe they should become a touring act... If you want to buy the CD I suggest you do. I just listened to it a couple of times and now I'm on to something new (normally I only listen to something once). There is a lot of music out there. It was a nice listen but not 20$ worth. I've never really paid for music and I doubt I will start now but I don't have any problems with people paying for it. I'm sure a lot of work and thought went into making it, but if artists want to make money, they should tour...

I will definitely buy this record if it makes it to Canada as I did with the other Shpongle albums. Shpongle in group formation may not be a touring band but S.Posford and Raja ram are definitely touring dj's.

seriously though, this mentality can lead to certain important problems... not all music is dancefloor or "show" oriented. Alot of stuff you need to sit down and carefully listen to at home to be able to enjoy.

Alot of the music I listen to brings a certain individualistic experience and should be lived alone... I feel this type of music is often an experimenting ground for artists to create new styles and sounds that can go on to influence dance music (dubstep for example is a genre where the dancier hemisphere feeds of the downtempo hemisphere and vice versa) if no record sales justify the release of such music then these steps (no pun intended) of evolution in sound become almost impossible... face it dance music basically just uses one sound or recipe (dirty electro sound, wobble basslines, 303) till it gets tired of it and moves on to something else that usually comes from a certain form of experimentation.

...I'm grossly generalizing to try and simplify my thoughts here but I think what I'm saying here isn't completely foreign or crazy... otherwise let me know

I think that's a really important point Rawali...

A common argument used to justify downloading music is "they'll make money from touring".

What about Brian Eno? Or Boards of Canada? This stuff isn't the kind of music that you can realistically make mad cash off of concert sales with. It's easy to forget that not all music is intended for a rave or concert atmosphere. A lot of it is inteded for listening at home or on headphones and doesn't neccessarily translate to a live environment.
