Scott, you are as usual a scholar and a gentleman, and that is probably the most astute comparison I have ever perused herein.

In all honesty I really feel like dubstep has amazing potential to be used a counter-rhythm to flesh out other sounds. There's a sequence in the Neckface mix by Surgeon [ www.dj-surgeon.com ] that runs through cuts by Aaron Spectre, Scorn and Basic Channel. It's done very effectively... and really shows what the style is capable of doing.

I love the sense of menace that shows up in certain cuts (Bombardment of Saturn by Vex'd is a prime example), but I'd be bored stiff if I went out and heard variations on that same theme for an entire night.. and that seems to be exactly what seems to happen every time there's a new sound. Everybody jumps on the train, canes the same shit until everyone is sick of it. Think about it, the strength of the DJ is the ability to mix things up... but far too few are willing to do so.

The genres in electronic music have far too narrow a focus to stand on their own... they need contrasts and shifts in tone to help support them. So fuck genre purity and respect to those who tear down the walls...

I'm just saying think outside the box... and have a destination in mind. Innovation is much better than stagnation...

no I agree sir... I often stagnate when producing, its frustrating,,, er like creating a melody and being "shit son, thats the bomb!" and then having someone be like "thats sounds exactly like [insert artist name].." and then ur like, shit i was sumblinized again...

is anything original anymore??? is there even a box 2 think outside of anymore?

Ufot-stagerizenation of the mindspace

I don't know about that... it seems like common sense to me... but so many people seem content to follow a formula... like they're scared of breaking the rules. What fucking rules?!?!

funny thread !

... anyone here heard the new shakleton... "death isnt final"... sounds like dubstep, apparently it was cut at 100 bpm.

check quarta 330, its off of hyperdub... full on c-64 beats

whats that new wiley tune..."wearing my rolex" or somethin like that... full 90 dance tchune that one!

... new ikonika, new appleblim ... dj pinch and thats just to name a few!

no offence, but if you cant find any original sounds out there... then you must be doing it wrong.
I'm feeling pregnant with meanin right now..

might be the T++ remix you're thinking of? shackleton's got a few releases in the 100-110 bpm range though.

big up whodat... and it could be, but no short term memory means im bad with names!

this just helps prove the point anyway, that there is plenty out there that pushes the bounderies of the dubstep sound... 100% of the 10%, if you know what i mean!1

and yo, i mean you dont even have to look any further then in your own city (MTL) to see folks cuttin dubstep riddims on 3/4's, 5/8's and 7/8's timming! i never heard anyone else do that, so???

dubstep and digerdoos... by itself, the sounds komodo get out of that piece of bamboo is pretty fucking original... add that to simultaniously mixing tracks on top... thats friggin wild innit?

i like shackleton's remix of ricardo villalobos's blood on our hands... there is something in that track that makes my brain go sideways

edit:... so sideways that i got it upside down... its ricardo villalobos's remix of shackleton's blood on our hands... and i know its not dubstep
