So, all those who were there know what happened and hopefully you know because of WHO it happened!
I won't write names on the forum but i'll make sure that those involved on shutting down this party, making everyone leave WITHOUT THEIR COATS AND BAGS and just turning the nite into a shitty experience for many of us, will never make it even close to my future events!

I'm deeply sorry guys, i don't even know what to say :( but i'll promise i'll make up for this!

It was a blast while it lasted tho...

major apologies from the natural disasters crew, for those who dont know there was a search warrant for drugs. Neither of us in the organisation of this party (david, felix and me) take drugs let alone sell any. This shut down has nothing to do with us... its just a """"""coincidendce"""""" that the cops decided to raid this party instead of dropping by in the afternoon.

the cops have confiscated the door money, our energy drinks, our water bottles as well as daves glowsticke (uuuuhm...?). I dont know about Josée but we (dave, felix and me) have not received any fines. I was told to wait for some mail because i could be charged... the cop didnt know what for yet but im guessing theyll figure it out soon enough.

I'd like to say that I'm especially sorry for all of those who are minor and had the cops call their parents... I know from a similar personal experience that this kind of thing can cause irreperable family drama... I really do hope that as little harm as possible was done to the families

Now I've learned a few things yesterday night that might be of help to other promoters. I will do some research on the legality of things and get back to you. If anyone has a degree in law or knows someone who does or simply has extended knowlege on the subject please pm me, dave of felix

and obviously... a big big big big big thank you to all of those of you who came...

I forgot to mention, for those of you who were not there, the police made everyone go outside, without letting them pick up their coats and made them wait... at least 15 minutes in the freezing cold before giving back the jackets

we'll find a way... you cant kill a movement... I dont know what we are undertaking as promoters of an, apparently, illegal movement but we do need all of you to support us moraly

we're starting an online petition for all those of you who feel have been mistreated and intimidated by the police. if you know people who are not on this board and that have been in this situation, please send them this link

it might seem vain to some of you but it is import to us to get as many names as possible on that list to get some visibility and credibility

thanks to you all! rave on

good idea... for now we need as many names on the virtual list as possible to try and get back our money and we'll schedule a date for the signing... maybe distribute them in parties and such

The police arrived literally as we were crossing the street leaving the venue. I must say it was absolutely surreal, they were marching in single file around de l'eglise and then down wellington. a line of about 15-20 cops in what looked like a full on raid. I can only imagine what the situation was like inside when they stormed the venue. Needless to say, we figued it was a bad idea to stick around and find out.

I'd like to send my condolences to the promoters and all the partiers. in all my years in the scene i've nevver seen anything like this whatsoever. I hope that the promoters walk away from this with no legal problems and are able to recover the door money from the police.

It was a great party while it lasted. I had a fantastic time playing with Doc for all of you and I hope that this kind of incident doesn't stop Dave and his crew from continuing to throw awesome events.

All the best,
Dj Emm

The last time I saw so many police was right outside Berri Uqam metro when they were doing their "Make Montreal Look Better To The Eyes Of Tourists" or whatever they called it thing. I was walking out of the metro and like 30 police stormed around the area from every direction.

What I don't agree with is them taking all the tip money / water sales from the people who were working selling water and energy drinks to people. That is disgusting and probably not allowed. The last I heard selling drinks (non alcoholic) anywhere is allowed. And taking the glow sticks? What is with that??? I hope you get all of that back.

I'll have to check to make sure, but I don't think it's legal to sell anything at a private appartment, wich cyberloft is, regardless of the image they tried to have. I feel very bad for the promoters, as they're professionnal individuals who I know put lot of effort in throwing quality events. That venue, however, was just waiting to get busted. I warned many people, including José, that this wouldn't last, so I have to admit I wasn't very surprised to see it happen. Having my own party busted last april thought me too things. First of all, it's the most frustrating thing to end an event like this, and you guys have my support. Second is that it's important to learn from it, and Rawali, I have to give you props for your professionnal attitude in this regard.

I would also like to thank the people who warmed me up while I was waiting to get my coat. I dropped it in a random corner of the venue, and it took forever for the cops to find it, and I'd like to thank Moloch for letting me and my roommate wait for the metro at his place. I think that especially now, it's every promoter's responsability to learn from the mistakes most of us made in the past, and be very careful in booking legal and safe venues. It's more enjoyable for everyone, and people will have a good time at parties.
I'm feeling raves'r'us 2 right now..

I think we need to stop disillusioning ourselves.

In all honesty, the system didn't fuck you. The venue's sketchy past did. Le_D is totally right, that place was bound to fall sooner or later. And part of me is happy knowing that this happened. You want to seem credible? Don't book sketchy venues. It just sucks that this happened on a night that was being held by promoters I respect.

I encourage you to look into the laws to see what can be done about atleast part of the money collected that night. If you have any questions about certain things I may be of help... drop me a line.

Taking everything into consideration, throwing everyone out with no coats shows a real lack of judgment and civility on behalf of the cops. No matter on which side of the fence you see this intervention, that ain't cool.

I appreceate the support and words of wisdom, will talk soon...

about the venue... now, yes its (was?) sketchy and, yes it was obvious that drugs were going around there but the fact of the matter is... finding a venue, with decent electricity, safe fire exits, in a commercial area, a dance permit, no drugs involved, priced under 1K$ a night etc etc... is nearly impossible... at that point... we have to build the place... we went for the least sketchy venue we could find.

This venue problem is causing serious harm to our scene... not killing it but keeping it infant... look at all the big electronic music movements around the world... they all have their venue, that turn into a label, that turns into a big fucking scene. detroit had the music institute, chicago had the wearhouse, germany had tresor, uk has forward>>

worth the thought... we'll see in a few years once were all rich

wow...i wasn't there, but wow, shitty [ news...ca ] belive the cops still use drugs as a reason to bust up a party (police bulliten: most ravers DON'T even use hard drugs at raves anymore!)... ...every single venue MTL promoters have ever tried to use, more than twice, never have more than a 4 to 6 month life-span. Venues die for social reasons and, mainly, the police (well, the mayor really)...beaubien church, go-kart, 1919 & 1619 william, tango, ntk st.urbain, fractal, and now cyberloft. If after a few months using a venue things seem to going too well, run! The cops are gunning for us, have been since the dawn of the rave; they wait, or they're just too slow, and when the time is right and they have all their "intel", they storm in.
On the other hand, it seems as though this event was busted for reasons that don't have much to do with the party itself, and the details are sketchy... ...so, i would appreciate it if someone could p.m. me with some more info so that I can watch out for this "person" and find new ways to cover my ass at future events i (and others) promote...

...anyway, never give up people...

cheers

naw, i dont think drugs was a cheap excuse... drugs dealers were there and were arrested... having 16 cops show up is kinda over doing it but anyways.

na... ozzyris_@hotmail.com, we'll have a chat on the details if you wanna know

You've got 106 attending on [ rave.ca ] alone. So 16 cops for ATLEAST 106 people...

If shit were to go down south (which obviously rarely if never happens in raves), have you ever tried to take on almost 7 people at the same time?

They could have brought "toute la cavalerie"... proves that cops know we're mostly pacifists.
