Healthy eating experts have criticised Channel Five show Make Me A Supermodel after a size 12 woman was told she is too stocky to be a catwalk model.

Jen Hunter, who had a lower than average body mass index of 20.4 when she joined the show, has been reduced to tears after being castigated for not taking a food and exercise regime seriously.

Judge Tandy Anderson, managing director of Select Model Management, told Ms Hunter, who has reached the final of the show, that her legs were too stocky.

Ms Hunter, 24, was also told off by supermodel Rachel Hunter for saying she wanted to prove larger women could succeed as models. The supermodel said she had spent 20 years battling with her weight and that Ms Hunter should do the same. The show comes to its climax this week when one of the four remaining contestants - two male and two female - will secure a modelling contract with Select.

Ms Hunter's rival Marianne Berglund, 18, is clinically underweight. The judges have told her she has a "great" body.

Nutritionist Fiona Hunter said today: "It is highly irresponsible to tell a woman who is a size 12 she is too fat. This trend towards the size zero is putting young girls' long-term health at risk."

A Channel Five spokesman said: "The panel does not have any issue with Jen. However, Jen has not listened to any of the advice and subsequently put on weight."

The final is on Thursday.

What I find funny about this situation is you have to live on planet Goupa-Guppa to think you can be a runway model at size 12. It's not right.. but you should know already. It's like applying to be a cop and calling it descrimination when they tell you you aren't tall enough.

this model die on november 15. she's not the first one and not the last one to die from anorexia complications. very sad. very pathetique and pathologique.

i have a lots of friends who r model and they always have pressure to loose weight... and believe me i saw these girls in bikini and they are so toned and already skinny! they just need to fucking seat and have a part of chocolate cake!

i think i hate mainstream fashion bizzzzness.

i don't think that it's the model who deserve it. the big multinational guys(because like any other sector of economy, it's men who rule's fashion bizzness!), on the top of the chain who exploit theses girls like meat don't give a fuck and i think it's them who should fucking be punish..or change at least.
i think it's just absurde. humans are absurde.

Well I think thats putting it a little roughly.
I have friends who are models as well and one of them doesnt give a crap and eats what she wants. However she is one of the lucky ones that doesnt gain weight. I admire her because she does not let all this crap get to her. It isnt her mainlife goal to be a model either. Just something on the side.
Anyways I like websites like SG because the models are real - although I noticed they are starting to take on mostly twig models..but maybe its just a phase.
Anyone watch Americas next top model? Tyra is nuts.

There is tons of stuff people do that is wrong without being forced to do so. It's a cultural issue. Not an individual issue.

It's true people make their own decisions but they base those dicisions on what they percieve around them.

i think that sg is shitty. yeah i think the concept is int. they have some good photograhs...
i like burlesque esthetique and i don't have problem with girls who "empowerment" themselves by showing their body.(i think it's a strange way to do it, but every people have their own trip!)
and i like also the concept that they democratize beauty. every girl, with a good concept and some make-up could be a sg..

my problem is that again, who really profits all this? at the very end, certainly not the girls who show their ass under this banniere!!!

here last year, the sg faced a big polemique. somes girls were banned and felt exploited.

i don't see any difference between playboy, hustler, and sg... the esthetique is just different.
sexe=money and meat is meat.

It is not all men, look at Vogue, Vanity Fair, Elle, etcc.... who these magazines cater to? Women. Did you ever notice the models?

There is nothing wrong with that. Runway models have to be skinny and plain looking so that the judges can focus on their outfits. Jen Hunter is hot, but her legs are indeed inappropriate for runways, they would obviously draw too much attention. She'd make awesome photoshoots though, she's exactly the type of girl I'd like to see on a magazine cover.
I'm feeling delicious right now..
