i really think its electronica...

with an emphisis on techno and trance.

really... how can you call this music?

like for real... shouldn't the beat change at least every 8 or 16 bars or something?

and whats up with writing drum riffs with out FUCKIN' SNARES?

like what the fuck is wrong with you?

some of the most primitive cultures in human civilization had better kits.

and why does every trance mix sound like it was recorded on a fuckin' boombox?

like no volume? no low end?

boring ass faded mixes and 30 minute breakdowns...

our parents were right

we are listening to mindless garbage.

... most techno is shite, but so are most breaks for that matter. It's the same bag of tricks to me!

10 % - 90 % rule here i guess...

Underground Resistance out of Detroit actually does some good stuff though... some of the craziest drums and most layered tunes ive ever herd in any genre.

plop!

belive me... i know there is alot of shitty breaks...

but overall most of the breakbeat music being released is much less primitive and can much more easily be compared with music your likely to here on the radio.

like a drummer can listen to it and respect it more for its percussions...

i can actually dig some of those fast trancey synth lines, but there isn't really much in terms of structure and originality... its like one good element sitting on a pile of shit and everybodys so high that they they don't give a fuck.

and don't even get me started on this minimal shit...

THESE TRACK AREN'T EVEN CLOSE TO BEING FUCKIN' FINISHED!!!!!

BACK TO THE STUDIO AND DON'T COME OUT UNTILL YOU FINISH SOMETHING!!!!

people need music to be fucked up on drugs to though....differnt tunes for different purposes...yes it's mostly crap but so is most music period.

and george, i don't love minimal techno but what do you mean the tracks aren't finished? sometimes i think your only criteria for what makes good tunes is what you can fill the shitty dancefloor at saphir with. surely you agree there's a place for chill shit etc

ps breaks is really for drunken students with sirens wearing a comedy hat ;-)

@ stinger...

i do agree there is place for chill shit ... heck i even think there is a place for complete crap...

but how many good bands do you know that would work with a drummer who could only play a kickdrum and clap his hands?

if a human can do so much better live...

why should it be all half assed when its automated?

like shouldn't electronic music be more advanced due to its infinate posibilitys?

as far as my criteria and my own personal playlists...

i'd like to be the first to admit that i use listener stupidity to my advantage.

i play whole sets that are nothing but cheezy hooks.

i'm not telling you to respect me for it...

i have a hard enough time respecting myself sometimes!!

you all know Murdock makes a good point

i guess i find music that's repetitive and predictable, infectious

but i also like to listen to stuff that challenges me to listen
sometimes time after time and i still decide i dislike it
or eventually love it

there's always going to be purists in everything, which i find important cause they keep pushing the limits within constraints
and then those who are constantly working on merging conflicting or opposites
sometimes to create a new purism

there's enough room for all of that
that's whats why music keeps me going

or maybe i just lack of a strong opinion and dabble with everything

House music is the worst music since disco because it lacks any musical or rythmic sophistication because of its 4/4 signature. I know some people really like it and everything, but those people either a) are really high, or b) have no taste.

I think there's no good or bad music since it's just waves in the air...

It becomes music only in your brain, but nobody's brain works the same way...

I can admit there's easy made music for people who don't want to make an effort to understand all the subtilities you can find in music.

I also think acoustic music is made to create emotions, electronic music is made (mostly) to create moves.

Music is what's different about animals and humains, since a chimp took a stick in is hand started to create rythms, then, other chimps did the same they all started to jam and they a great time all night long... This the birth of Mankind.

oh and @trix, which non-house electronic music can't be count on 4/4 signature?
