i hear a lot of ravers being all jaded and everything about mdma, like it's no big deal and just a regular drug to them. i am just starting to discover how good this feels, and wondering how much is too much?
see i don't ever want to be jaded and loose the state of bliss this brings to me.

i think you should be more worried about the brain damage you will be causing. If you don't want the novelty to wear off , do it once a year.

Erowid:

MDMA generally comes in the form of small tablets, capsules, or white powder. It is common when buying MDMA to get a combination of any of the following : MDMA, MDA, MDE, Caffeine, Dextromethorphan, Ephedrine, Glyceryl guaiacolate, and phenylpropanolamine. A chemical analysis of a variety of "hits" of MDMA found from 0 - 100 mg of MDMA as well as a variety of the above substances. Trying to calculate dosages from tablets containing unknown quantities of MDMA can be difficult, but a good quality tablet of street ecstasy generally contains an average of between 75 and 100 mg MDMA. The chart below shows dosages for pure MDMA, measured in milligrams (mg).

Threshold 30 mg
Common for small or sensitive people 50 - 75 mg
Common for most people 75 - 125 mg
Common for large or unsensitive people 125 - 175 mg
Required by few (side effects increase) 200 + mg

Frequency and dose - It really takes about a week for you to completely return to baseline after X or L. This means if you are doing it more often than that your body is being stressed, which lowers your immune system. Also, the higher the dose, the harder it is on your body. While X is easier mentally than L, it is much harder on the body. Doing just enough to get off will not only keep you healthy, it saves money too. :)

Food - Both X and L suppress your appetite while increasing your level of activity. (X is worse because the suppression lasts longer than the trip.) This means that you are burning up your body's reserve energy when you are dancing and not eating. When the body's reserves are gone, you then begin burning muscle tissue, this is bad. Of course, all of this adds to your physical stress levels and lowers your immune system. The bottom line is that you must force yourself to eat correctly before, during and after X or L. This is complicated by the fact that both X and L slow down the movement of your bowels, making it harder to digest food.

Before a trip - eat fruits, vegetables and starches, avoid oils and heavy proteins, don't eat anything heavier than fruit an hour before dropping, especially if you are prone to nausea.
During the trip - drink juice, eat simple starches (bread, crackers) and nibble fruit (eating food is much easier on X than L), set a schedule for eating and stick to it (remember, you won't feel hungry) avoid candy, pop and anything with alcohol or caffeine. (These may seem nice, but they do bad things to your blood sugar and hydration.)
After the trip - eat fruits, vegetables and starches, avoid oils and heavy proteins, eat several small meals rather than trying to eat a few large ones, remember you won't *feel* hungry but your body needs the food.
Take a good look at yourself, are you just skin and bone? If you are, up your calories from starches and good fats (esp. olive/canola and fish). Your body needs a slight layer of fat to stay healthy, men and women.

Vitamins and herbs - Vitamins are NOT a replacement for eating right! However, when you stress your body vitamins can help keep any negative impact to a minimum. X in particular (especially when raving and drinking lots of water) removes water soluble vitamins from the body. Also, certain vitamins are used up a higher rates when you're under stress or over exerting.
Here are some of my favorites:

A good multi-vitamin multi-mineral for the day after. (break it up to help digestion)
2-3 grams of DLPA (DL-Phenylalanine) if I feel "bummed out" the day after.
Melatonin 9-21 mg when I'm ready (and able) to sleep.
60 mg CoEnzyme Q 10 (oxygenates the heart), .5 - 1 gm inositol and 3.5 gm l-orthine alpha ketoglutarate (keeps the cells in aerobic respiration), 2 gm time release pantothenic acid (maintains endurance and fights stress) I take these 1 or 2 hours before dropping.
Vitamin C 1-4 grams as needed 3-4 times a day. Every time they study vitamin C they find it does more good stuff for ya. Pluses are: time release, neutralized with calcium, mixed with bioflaviniods.
Herbs - This is a complex area with many conflicting opinions. Some that I find useful:
Reishie mushrooms - Proven to boost the immune system shitake and miatake mushrooms - contain "adaptogens" which help cope with stress
Ginseng - more adaptogens.
Ginkgo - increases blood flow in the brain

MDMA has the potential to be psychologically addicting. Individuals who use it regularly may find they have an increased desire to continue using it. There is a short period of tolerance after MDMA use. Using MDMA two days in a row is likely to lead to a greatly diminished experience the second day, though spaced 7 or more days apart, this effect is lessened. Some users report noticing reduced effects for up to 2 or 3 weeks after initial use.

another obscure clip from erowid..

To summarize the clinical data, the available evidence tends to suggest that in human users a (probably reversable) decrease in 5-HT may occur (possibly via suppression of the enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase) but that 5-HT neurons remain functionally intact. However, neurotoxic levels in humans are probably "attainable" and the exact amount of MDMA required to elicit a neurotoxic response in humans is unknown.

The exact mechanism of MDMA neurotoxicity in animals is not presently known [11], but it seems to require dopamine activity, oxidation, and access to the 5-HT transporter. Increasing dopamine activity via ingestion of methamphetamine, l-tyrosine, phenylalanine or l-dopa would tend to increase MDMA neurotoxicity. This is a concern since phenylalanine is in diet soft drinks and products sweeted with aspartame(tm) and is also in many "smart drinks" sold at raves and of course methamphetamine is a concern since MDMA is often cut with crystal. On the other hand ascorbate (vitamin C) and l-cystine which are anti-oxidants have been shown to prevent MDMA induced neurotoxicity in animals, as has the administration of a SSRI antidepressant (Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, etc.). Studies indicate that taking either an anti-oxidant or a SSRI up to 5 hours after taking MDMA will prevent neurotoxicity in animals[12].

It may be sensible irregardless of if MDMA is neurotoxic in humans for users to take an antioxidant (e.g. 2-4 g vitamin C, orange juice) along with some 5-HT precursors (l-trytophan or 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), bananas, milk).

you were right about the bananas!

Ever more alarming animal studies conducted over a decade by George Ricaurte, a neurotoxicologist at John Hopkins University School of Medicine, suggest that taking high and/or frequent doses of MDMA causes damage to the terminals of serotonin axons in the brain. Cerebrospinal fluid 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA), serotonin's major metabolite which serves as a marker of central serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) neural function, may be lower in human MDMA users than in putatively matched controls. The number of serotonin transporter sites, structural protein elements on the presynaptic outer axonal membrane that recycle the released neurotransmitter, may be reduced too. Currently the balance of neurochemical and neuroanatomical evidence, and functional measures of serotonin neurons, suggests that it is imprudent to take MDMA or other ring-substituted methamphetamine derivatives without also taking neuroprotective precautions. Arguably, it is best to take MDMA infrequently and reverently or not at all - Dr Shulgin once suggested a maximum of four times a year.

Sorry for the bad news, but MDMA will never be as good as the first couple of times you do it. I've done MDMA for about 3 years, no more than one pill per month. I still enjoy it, but its no longer the spiritually mind-blowing experience it first was.

I think, at least for me it has a lot more to do with perception then anything physical. It loses it's wow, it loses it's ability to take you aback, even if you knew just as much what to expect before, it becomes too easy to control. I remember taking mdma back in the day and havign problems walking without stumbling. Damn, I want that to happen again.
