SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION AND CONTROL WEEK

SUBSTANCE abuse has penetrated not only every sector of Philippine
society but also every country in the world. Substance abuse ruins the
individual, his family, and the country's future. It results in the
users' physical, mental, emotional, and socio-economic impairment.

Massive police operations against illicit drugs and drug
organizations, holding of activities such as seminars, trainings,
public awareness campaigns, sports development, education, etc., are
parts of the holistic approach adopted by the government in fighting
the drug menace. Anti-poverty and job-creation programs have
contributed to the efforts against substance abuse, considering that
unemployment is one major factor promoting this menace.

The family is our foremost weapon against drug abuse. Strengthening
the family ties, moral values, educating members, etc., are the
strongest means to counter drug abuse. The Philippine National Police
(PNP)'s "Pamilya Ayaw sa Droga" campaign stresses that the crusade
against drug abuse must be undertaken on all fronts, especially in the
home.

The National Anti-Drug Program of Action and the Dangerous Drugs Board
are leading this year's observance of Substance Abuse Prevention and
Control Week.

Let us all take heed of the tips given by the National Anti-Drug
Program of Action and the Dangerous Drugs Board: Don't start nor try.
Promote strong family and community ties. Choose your friends. Keep a
strong moral foundation. Promote community vigilance.

Not only drugs but all menaces will fail before a family where harmony
reigns.
