ARE SENIORS TRYING TO LEGALIZE MARIJUANA?

After reading Bill Federico's letter to the editor (Jan. 16), I must
admit to being puzzled. He speaks of the 1960s movement and says
hippies revitalized pot for the new decade. Surely he does not think
that pot disappeared for these many years. And just who is
revitalizing it --- the ones with knowledge and experience of
marijuana perhaps? The youngsters don't have the power to push such
things through the Legislature. Therefore, it must be those '60s hippies.

Of course, who are these hippies we are talking about? Well, if you
subtract 1960 from 2011, you wind up with 51. If you were one of
those radicals in 1960 and you were 18 years of age then, you would
be 69 today. That means you would be a grandfather, probably on Medicare.

If I was a suspicious person, I would think that our senior citizens,
who used the stuff in the past, are trying to sneak something through
the New Jersey Legislature that they could not do years ago. Remember
the quote from Lenny Bruce, "Marijuana will be legal someday, because
the many law students who now smoke pot will someday become
congressmen and legalize it in order to protect themselves."
