MEDICAL MARIJUANA MESS

EDITOR: I see the feds have decided to crack down on pot dispensaries
here in California. Perhaps this would be less of an issue had the
state required the same oversight on this drug used with others.

I voted for this law believing the pot would be regulated and
dispensed in the same manner other prescription drugs are -- and for
people who would medically benefit from it -- but this is not the
case. Pot is not produced and sold in a secure, regulated and
monitored manner as are other prescription drugs; instead, a rag-tag
approach is used in the growing, processing and dispensing of this
sometimes useful drug.

California had the chance to develop a role model medical program for
people who could benefit from this drug. Instead we have no
structure, oversight or accountability but rather a program run by no
one in particular. It's little wonder the feds are headed this way. I
wish them well.
