HAZE ABOUT MARIJUANA LAW NOT SO FOGGY

In response to June 16 letter, "Pot law should be clearer, more
fair":

The author of this letter, who is holding himself out as an authority
on legal matters, is wrong. The signatures of city voters are indeed
counted on county referendum petitions (see Election Code Section
9144). In the case of Board of Supervisors v. Superior Court, 147 Cal.
App. 3d 206 (1983), this was made clear. As to the inference that we
will be trying to confuse the voters with a misleading claim, not
true. All of our signature gathers have been instructed to inform the
public that, by signing the petition they agree that this county board
of supervisors should not have the power to prevent patients from
growing their allotted six plants, simply because they don't own a
half acre or more of land. Where is the deception?

This whole issue actually goes far beyond this. It's about people like
this author who refuse to accept the fact that cannabis is a valuable
therapeutic tool that can be used responsibly. It's about politicians
who refuse to get educated, who have never tried it and just don't get
it, and who, acting out of fear and prejudice, go out of their way to
deny us access to this amazing medicine that helps so many people in
so many ways.

We growers apologize if our gardens sometimes smell, but it's only for
a few weeks out of the year. Get over it. And please, help stop the
"cannabis is evil" myth.
