ONLY ALERT DRIVERS SHOULD BE ALLOWED ON B.C. ROADS

Almost anywhere else in the world, it wouldn't be necessary to defend
the obvious -- namely that stoned drivers should not be travelling on
public highways.

But here on the West Coast, the marijuana-legalization movement is so
zealous and so committed to its cause that there are some motorists
who actually believe it is OK to drive while under the influence of pot.

Thankfully, the police do not share their view and are starting to
pull these potheads off the road.

Langley Mounties, for example, said that in one recent two-day period
seven drivers were given 24-hour suspensions for driving under the
influence of marijuana.

And that should make us all breathe a bit easier.

After all, it doesn't really matter how people's judgment is
impaired, whether by booze, prescription drugs or pot. It's the fact
that it is that creates danger both for those who are impaired and
for other motorists.
