While knowing how to beatmatch and having confidence in your equipment doesn't alone make a good DJ, playing a party without these things seems a bit premature. Nice venue though.

Probably more appropriate in the review section (it's not up yet though) but it was a good time last night. As always Qubic was awesome and still holds the title of basically the only MC I've heard who makes music BETTER (generally not a fan). He's really talented.

One thing I'll never understand is the people sitting on the side lines or standing around. With the combination of the beats and the MCs, not dancing is impossible. Get on the dancefloor lurkers! =D

I have to put some stuff together for a person to play live (not a club setting) and it must be royalty free. I have found some nice tracks, but she wants me to layer them with more beats. Does anyone know a good source of free and royalty free short loops?

Thanks!

I love this night.

No really. I love it.

I wish more people would get behind the dnb... It's a shame that good taste is so rare. I just wanna say that the dude spinning from 1-2ish had great a selection and the MC (yeah, I am bad with names, alright) is the ONLY MC that I have ever seen that I have enjoyed. It's normally not my thing and normally I think it really detracts, but every time I see this guy, he really adds something. Keep doing what you're doing.

On a side note, it might be nice to see some breaks too... I know that it's a dnb night and that people probably want to keep it pure but breaks might bring in some more bodies to crowd the floor and be a nice change of pace. Meh, just my feeling on it. I will continue to go to KO so long as I have legs.

I've been told by a good source that the people who might be to blame are Mikey Apple from Toronto or Mike D at Coda. Remember these names and look out for them. Make sure you don't buy tickets to shows that involve these two and let's make sure this sort of shit can't happen again. If I'm mistaken about who is to blame here, PM me and let me know.

And to address another post, this threat is not about line ups so much as is about the intentional robbing of the people who support events, us, by shitty greedy promoters. I don't mind lining up to a busy club, it's my own damn fault if I'm not there early enough. What I mind is paying for the privilege to be a meal ticket for some douche bag promoter.

meloodie: I certainly don't think it's Beat Me Ups fault, of course... the people involved with Beat Me Up seem to do such a nice job with everything else and they seem to have their shit together. I would encourage them to distance themselves from Coda though as it's bad to be associated with people who consistently screw us.

Yes, but when you are told that the pre-sale is near exhausted by the people selling tickets and there are 1500 people confirmed on facebook, and then you see the line ups and what not at ELEVEN PM, it's a pretty good indication.

Had I known anything about the capacity of this club I would have seen what the deal is and would not have gone anywhere near this. It's too bad that I have never been to Coda before this.

Also V2.0: Just because people have done this before does not excuse it. It's a practice that needs to end and promoters who use it need to be punished and run out of business. I will vote with my wallet and my voice and ensure to never go near any event at this place again and I will tell everyone I know the same. In an industry that depends so much on word of mouth, hopefully this extracts some penance.

Scotty: I appreciate the gesture but don't bother. It's like $11 and I don't want to put you to any trouble. I am more pissed about the principle than anything. I ran into this sort of stuff a lot when I lived in Winnipeg (anyone know the name Jordan Chester?) but so far Montreal has been much better about this sort of stuff. I just want people to know about this. Buyer beware, you know. I do appreciate it though, thanks.

Yeah, I have ticket 1013 and it's supposed to be sold out.

Gamos: PLUR or no PLUR, it's all very simple: I paid for something and didn't receive it, along with probably upwards of 900 other people who won't get that something. No drama necessary, it's simply maths. If I have to picket their next show to ensure that they lose the money they stole from me, I will. If only everyone were so vindictive =D Haha, cold does funny things to people.

So… I just got back from Coda or, more correctly, out side of Coda. We arrived at 11 (very early for an event in Montreal) and encountered two lines: one line for people with tickets, one line for people without tickets. We (incorrectly) assumed that as people who had bought tickets before the event, that it might be prudent to stand in the line designated for ticket holders. Our logic being that the promoters would expedite the entry of those people who had lined their pockets via putting our money (and faith) in their hands weeks before the show. What we didn’t expect is that the promoters must think us idiots and patsies for being so accommodating. We waited in the ticket holder line for over an hour (you know what the weather is like) while the bouncers let in group after group of people without tickets. Our line remained static while the promoters decided to cash in and cramming their club over capacity while the fools who paid in advance froze.

I will never go to Coda again and will find who promoted this show and will never attend their shows again. Additionally, I will tell everyone who cares to listen to do the same. People deserve more respect than this. It has nothing to do with PLURistic bullshit and everything to do with very simple basic respect. You pay for something, you should receive that something. Promoters that default on their obligations need to be run out of business. If this is you, then a big fuck you, straight from my now frigid heart (as I warm up in my apartment). If you got burned by these clowns, I encourage you to do what I am doing and make sure these people make no more money by fucking us over.
That’s about it. If you know who promoted this show, PM me.

Okay, random question here:

K, so I just got Rock Band 2 but there are not that many songs that I like. I desperately want the songs from the first game. I need to borrow a copy of the original rock band for the 360 for like 5 minutes to get the old tracks. Anyone wanna help me out? I'll let you destroy me in Rock Band 2! =D Or I could lend you Assassin's Creed, Fable II, Mercenaries 2, Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, or Metroid Prime Corruption in return. Lemme know!

I really only get a chance to play for maybe a few hours a week, so I am going through it REALLY REALLY SLOWLY. Good times though.

As the demand for greater download bandwidth increases, the current ISPs will have to accommodate it or risk losing business to new upstarts that will attempt to cash in on the vacuum. Adam Smith's invisible hand should sort this one out. I hope.

I don't understand the need for HD in movies really. In video games, I totally get it. But for movies and TV, I am perfectly happy watching anything streamed in a tiny browser window. Weird, I know.

I am fairly convinced I won't ever own a Blue Ray... most people won't I think. We are going to go all digital distribution before that happens. It's already happening with netflicks and the 360. One thing is for certain (puts on futurist hat) Blue Ray will be the last physical medium before everything is done either over the tubes or via flash drives.

And yeah dude, buy a fridge =D

Yeah, but you can't use it online, which is what I do most with my 360.

Also, I want to qualify my comment on the viability of PC gaming. Before I bought my 360, I priced out what it would cost to build a gaming rig that would stay current for about 2 years. The price of the video card alone was bordering on that of the 360. Also, at the time, developers were saying that they were going to move away from console gaming due to piracy and many games that I knew I eventually wanted at the time (Force Unleashed, for example) were going to be console only releases, which was a bit alarming. Put simply, I can't afford PC gaming anymore.

Just wanna put my 2 cents in here. I prefer the 360 for Online community, game selection, and controller. This is saying nothing about price, of course.

Also, I don't think that the PS3 will catch up to the 360 in terms of power available simply because Sony made the huge mistake of combining a super fast processor with a slow bus. It's like taking an engine out of a Ferrari and connecting it to the wheels with an axle made out of wood. This is the reason developers are saying that they can get higher frame rates and maintain better textures with the 360.

Personally, I wish that the PC was still a viable gaming option. I still prefer keyboard and mouse gaming.

Also, I own a Wii and never play it. So that's where I stand on it.

A lot people will swear up and down that dnb and jungle are the exact same thing. Me, I'm confused about this these days. I always thought that jungle was more raw and dnb more refined and 'crisp' but a lot of people think the opposite. Meh, who knows.

If in doubt about genres, check out [ techno.org ]

It's one persons opinion of course, but I think it's fun and useful.

"There's also a new night at Jupiter room starting up if you're into techno, electro and acid house"

Yes, yes I am. Thanks for the heads up.

"wait...doesn't electro refer to house? Im confused...or is electro-house and house 2 different things. Wow...wut a n00b question to ask."

Genre stuff get's complicated and everyone has a sightly different idea about what each name means... For example, is there a difference between jungle and dnb? Lots of people will disagree on this simple distinction. I suppose when I say house, I mean the house beat (4x4) and I tend to prefer ANYTHING with a breakbeat/broken beat (syncopation makes my feet want to move). Generally, I think electro can either have a house beat (electrohouse) or a break beat (electrobreaks). The electro bit is more about the other 'instruments' and how they are used. I tend to listin to and spin is electrobreaks...

Alls I know is that dirty, grindy, electro makes me want to dance.

Hope that makes sense.
