Killabits (TO)

Bassline pressure, this is The Killabits. Although the two producers have been hard at work for many years in the Toronto music scene, there is something undeniably fresh about the new music you can find coming from within their east end studio. Weather it’s up-tempo party tracks like their most recent FAME & FILTH world wide release “CLUB KILLA/PARTY CRASHERS” or the numerous dub heavy tracks you can find online, one thing is common among all of their production; the basslines will get you moving.

Just in time to finish 2009, The Killabits have entered into a license deal with FAME & FILTH RECORDS, and will be looking to grow upon their new found success outside of their hometown as they will enter 2010 with a heavy crate of new music for sale, and of course as always a loaded box of unlicensed REMIX work for promo. For the DJ or the listener, Dub-step or bassline house; your now rockin with the The Killabits.

LOETECH (Toronto)
XI & Bombaman

Loetech’s XI and Matt Carl (aka Bombaman) have played a key part in bringing the UK dubstep sound to Toronto dance floors.

But they haven’t been afraid to throw other flavours into the mix. Both are producing tracks on their own as well, and their take on the London sound is already making its way back across the ocean onto European dance floors.

You can find their tracks on a variety of labels, including Lo Dubs, Off Road, Aufect, Dubstep Digital and Formant, and an EP is coming soon on Surface Tension.

They’ve been getting international play from dubstep artists like Joe Nice, Headhunter, TRG, Rob Booth and Synkro, and some of their solo tracks have been getting love from hipster heroes like Diplo, Crookers and the Trouble & Bass crew.

WHAT THEY SOUND LIKE...
“UK bass with really bad bipolar.”

“People need to identify with the music and stop using the music to identify themselves. Open hearts, open minds.”

I L-O-V-E These guys!!! As producers and heads..AMAZING!!!

B.L.I.M. is one of the most important figures on the Breaks scene. He's a Producer/Remixer & International DJ based in East London. He started his recording career as a Drum N Bass artist releasing many tunes on Emotif and SOUR before moving over to Botchit & Scarper when he caught the breaks bug producing the classic detroitesque 'Chronologic'.
Beginning his musical life from an essentially classical orchestral base of piano and violin, he's used his musical knowledge to produce some of the most influential breaks in the World.
He has remixed a series of landmark tunes for Circulation, Hooj, Eruption & Anthony Rother and joined forces with Rennie Pilgrem, Freq Nasty, Chris Carter & Meat Katie to produce a smattering of seminal beaks tracks and remixes.

Responsible for some fine slices of jazz based drum'n'bass in the mid Nineties, BLIM (aka Gervais Cook) veered away from that particular version of breaks in the late nineties to join the tale end of big beat and the emergence of the contemporary break beat scene, at that time epitomised by the funky electro sounds of Freq Nasty.

‘Lost In Music’ is BLIM's his long time coming debut artist album. As ever the arrangements are funky the beats punchy and the bass lines oscillate from organic grooves to bin shifting sub growls.

As a formulae it's not ground breaking, but as music designed for hot sweaty dark rooms its production is geared toward what will shake a room not clever tricks. And at this BLIM is a master – as becomes clear from the opening track 'Skapurr'.

For other examples flick to his collaboration with label head honcho Rennie Pilgrim and MC Chickaboo, '2Freaks', 'Driving' or 'Dust', where he demonstrates that although Bongo Bongo Band's 'Apache', reputedly the first break beat, may have been used so much there's a whole in the vinyl, there is still thing or two you can do with it. As is made clear on 'Too Clever', tricks and effects do not a good dance record make and BLIM relies on neither.

If you asked any of the respected breakbeat producers who they rated highly In the scene, no matter what particular tip they’re on, you could guarantee that one name would be right up there.

B.L.I.M. is one of the most important figures on the Breaks scene. He’s a Producer/Remixer & International DJ based in East London. He started his recording career as a Drum N Bass artist releasing many tunes on Emotif and SOUR before moving over to Botchit & Scarper when he caught the breaks bug a few years ago. Beginning his musical life from an essentially classical orchestral base of piano and violin, he’s used his musical knowledge to produce some of the most influential breaks in the World.

He has remixed a series of landmark tunes for Circulation, Hooj, Moving Shadow and Mute and his rework of Anthony Rother’s ‘Red Light District’ was selected by Dave Clarke for his World Service compilation. His collaboration with former stablemate Freq Nasty produced some memorable remixes included Steve Reich’s ‘Desert Music’ and Metisse’s ‘Sousound”.

As a recording Artist on Botchit, B.L.I.M. produced the Detroitesque ‘Chronologic which has become a breaks scene classic. His collaboration two years ago with Chris Carter and Shara Nelson ,‘U’, was another ‘must have’ tune , neatly combining ‘Nu Skool’ sentiments with a vocal to die for.

CURRENT PROJECTS
Aside from being busy losing copious amounts of weight (no more pizza!) and playing league football, B.L.I.M. has also set up his own label ‘Track’ which has seen releases from himself, Chris Carter and Rennie Pilgrem. He has also been hard at it on the remix front, remixing such luminaries as Blame and Luke Slater amongst others.

He continues to DJ all over the world – in such far flung places as the USA, Spain, Budapest and Hong Kong (Gatecrasher event) to name but a few. He also did his debut tour of Australia to such acclaim that he will is about to go back for a huge tour covering South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

After the success of his first compilation for TCR ‘Modernizm’, the boy has just released his long-overdue artist album entitled ‘Lost in Music’. Collaborating with old favourites Rennie Pilgrem and Chris Carter aswell as the likes of Meat Katie has helped this album receive massive critical acclaim.

OK. Ok, Maybe this is a little out of date and he has put out more releases since this was written. But it's all true, this Thursday wu=ill be a unique bass odessey not to be missed. ONly 8 bucks and Poontz and Pinkyy 38 will be playing as well. Of course Rinse Out will be on fire with a live show by Hardsteppers, Corey K vs. Mayday and Krinjah!

This night is multi-dimesional and that's the way we like it.
It's a tribute to our good friend Mike Pearson aka Dj Nter.
He died tragically last year and we all miss him.
Mix Thursday falls right before his birthday and because we all had so much fun with Mike listening to good music at Saphir we'll do more of the same to celebrate.
Pop Montreal is getting in on the action and three bands will start the night upstairs,
while Mike's friend Dj $uphiktiou$ warms things up downstairs with some hiphop.
At 10 pm Broken Crew will embark on a 5hr epic tagteam set between members Poontz, Melon and Rhys Taylor on the first floor.
They're celebrating 6 years of madness (same birthday as mike? hmm..)
After the bands finish upstairs more hiphop (this was one of mike's loves) with Nter Da Xzit.
These guys are a live act actually formed in response to the loss of Mike. WORD.
Finishing the night upstairs is the cherry on the cake, special guest from NYC
PANDEMONIUM JONES of Caps and Jones!!! ( )
Mashup insanity!
Just to make this totally insane we'll be giving some of our proceeds to Dans La Rue.
So some of your cash will be helping out kids with rough situations.
Come help us make this the best birthday mega -event ever.

Doors are at 8 bands start at 8:30

"If this show had an in-house orchestra, it would be LEE COOMBS."- Pete Tong, Radio One

From the start of his DJ career in 1989 Lee Coombs bathed himself in acid house parties in and around London and Cambridge. In an industry that is slip and slide at the best of times, Coombs rapidly made a name for himself. He went on to run his own labels including the critically acclaimed and much talked about electro-driven Zoid recordings. It was whilst working at Intergroove in the late nineties that he met with Finger Lickiní records. The rest is history. Coombsí contribution meant that his acid-angled productions gave him a float all of his own. Seb Fontaine and Pete Tong noted Coombs as the "man to watch" after his "Future Sound Of Retro" album was released on Finger Lickin' in June 2001. Remixes including Quivver and Sister Bliss set the stepping stones to the success that would follow. Soon his talents were being called upon to put his twist on everyone from New Order to Lamb to Moby. Lee then got a call from Paul Oakenfold resulting in the almighty Perfecto Breaks album which was launched to critical acclaim in October 2002. Lee went on to remix Oakenfold's single "Time of Your Life". His notoriety prompted a request for Lee to fly to Prague in the summer of 2003 to record with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra the theme music for the BBC television program "Born To Win". 2004 saw Lee Coombs back in the studio writing like a demon in preparation for the release of his much-anticipated artist album "Breakfast Of Champions". He collaborated with some of the finest producers around including Dylan Rhymes, Christian J, Andy Gardner (Plump DJs) and Jem Panufnik (Soul Of Man). The album is a sure-fire winner full of breakbeat bombs and tech-house monsters. The first single from the album "Alright All-Night"/"Dubhead" went straight to No.1 in the DJ Mag Beats & Breaks Chart, got multiple plays on national radio and received rave reviews in all major publications. The second single features one of Lee's largest remixes to date - Oakenfold's "Time Of Your Life" with a re-working of New Order's "Crystal" on the flip. The third single "Shiver" feat Katherine Ellis which got immediately snapped up by the legendary house label Azuli records was tipped by Radio One to be the crossover hit we've all been waiting for, it went on to be one of the largest vocal anthems of 2005. To support the release of the album Lee embarked on a US tour and an Australasian Tour at the end of the year which culminated at Sydney's Field Day - a 25,000 person event on New Year's Day.
After the release of "Breakfast of Champions" Lee felt it was time to make a few changes on how his music was being projected. After long consideration he decided to split from Finger Lickin' records and concentrate on putting music out on his own label "Thrust Recordings", along with releases planned for Adrift records and Meat Katie's own Lot49 imprint this brave move has resulted in a much more solid backbone for Lees own world of music and productions. Along with his highly acclaimed website which acts more like a radio station than a place of information, the word is spreading fast!
In 2005 Lee started his own club night in San Francisco "Thrust". After regular trips to San Fran over the last 5 years and working hard to build his reputation and individual style he felt it was time to set up a home of his own. This quarterly event quickly became one of the busiest and hottest tickets in town! And with help from the Space Cowboys and Opel Productions this was the dream residency that Lee had always been working towards. Together with his regular internet radio show and podcasts on San Fran's Frisky Radio, things are looking great for the future.
2006 sees Lee getting ready for the July release of his new DJ compilation "The Land of the Monkey Snake". Inspired by a trip to a certain Festival in the desert Nevada USA in 2005, he has put together a journey of deep and twisted acid and electro grooves similar to the DJ sets that won him many fans out there on the Playa! Featuring new exclusive tracks and remixes from Lee himself, Meat Katie, Elite Force and more. And including Lees huge and yet unreleased reworking of the Electro House anthem Freaks ñ Creeps!
Backing all this up with a hectic remix schedule and constant DJing around the world, people are sitting up and taking notice of his extraordinary talent. You will too!
