I think the problem he has is the same problem many of us have, these peaceful protests turn into thinly vieled excuses to riot and break peoples things. Civil disobedience is one thing a bunch of bored people looking for for an excuse to throw rocks at the police and smash other people's window is something else.

My patience and support for these events ends once they start breaking innocent peoples windows and destroying their property, that is not civil disobedience that is vandalism.

Violence against police is wasted effort. They are merely doing a job, not to say they don't do a bad job on occasion, but if you really want to change something you need to go above the police as you aren't going to outfight the police and most people are quite happy with the status quo so you surely won't get a revolution.

The Police are like any other job, some are good some are bad, you might need to bite your tongue and be respectful when they deal with you. I've had a few run ins with police mainly over the fact I tend to wind up in places I shouldn't be, but being polite and respectful has led to me getting no charges ever laid, had my name run a few times, been searched a few times but usually they are pretty understanding as long as you don't just scream at them.

Alot of the times people post there incomes because the site tells them too and they don't pay attention, also who care what people make or if they choose to share it, I mean it's easy enough to lie about it.

I make a billion dollars a day....And I live in a manshion made of gold. *Gold doesn't really keep the cold out though*

Also people like to brag even in this scene it's all about who you know and who knows you, it's a different form of currency but it's not better or worse than bragging about your salary.

Posting figures about salaries in other countries, provinces don't prove any points. The only relevant data is the average salaries of people in Quebec. Also the average also includes the people who make multi million dollars, a better example would be the median salary of workers in Quebec.

If you and nine friends are at a party who make 30000 a year each and someone who walks in make 10 million a year the average income in the room is now 1027000, the median is 30000. So you could claim hey the average income is over a million bucks when in reality you and your nine friends are still just scraping by.

Your data is flawed, to begin with you can't use Canada's stats to make a claim about Quebec, Quebec has a much lower average income compared to different provinces.

Exactly I chose to not buy a car, its a headache I much prefer to take the metro or bus into work and just read or something on the way. Parking downtown is a nightmare and a waste when I can just take a metro for 20 minutes.

Wait I should move closer to downtown Montreal so I can walk to work? I like living in Verdun it's quiet near the water not too expensive and close to everything. Why should I live downtown just in case some overpaid workers want to go on strike.

Also when you increase wages accross the board it does drive inflation, making more money doesn't mean you always end up with more money in the end.

Apprently the government is stepping in to stop the Unions from holding the city hostage, about fucking time.

They are being forced to work certain times by the ruling from the essential service commitee. With the salaries they make I have to assume they are earning more than 200$ a week, they are probally working half shifts.

No it's not big savings, they are still paying wages so unless the workers are working less than 200$ a week the STM is still paying them.

They are still working plus they are entitled to strike pay if they work for less than 200$ a week. The security system isn't a big deal, we watch all major critical city infrastructure we always have it's nothing new.

The mayor doesn't need to fix this, he offered a very reasonable deal the Unions refuse to listen to reason and like a whining child need to be slapped down. I'm part of a Union by the way not by choice but I can see where they are useful. The problem is this Union won't bargain the City has stated it will meet their demands but they need to wait one year because right now there is a wage freeze as a temporary measure to cut costs this year. These people allready make more than I do and I manage to live pretty well so waiting 1 year won't kill them.

The larger problem is the city can't cave to the Unions not when the real fight is coming up the Union everyone can't stand is about to need to negotiate for a contract, the Unions all the street cleaners are part of the blue collar workers Union. You remeber them the Union that made sure a guy who spent a week in a coffee shop instead of doing his fucking job because it was beneath him to drive the little street cleaners. I don't show up for a week even with a Union I expect my ass kicked out the door unless I have a very good reason, I think it's beneath me to do this isn't one of those reasons.

Anyhow the Unions were offered better raises than most of us are getting the next 3 years but it's just not enough for them, they need more money and they throw around the word solidarity like it means something. Quebec is a Union friendly province and always has been, but more and more people are getting fed up with unions and the way they hold the public hostage. Business will go out of business over this, people are renting cars, paying taxi's, I have to rollerblade an hour to work which could be worse but stillmy 8 hour job now has a 2 hour commute unless I want to pay money on top on the money I allready spent on my bus pass which is now a more or less worthless piece of plastic. Wow this went on way longer than I expected but yeah don't write the mayor, write the union better yet organize mass public rallies against the Union, setup a picket show them how it feels to have their lives disrupted.

This entire conversation is funny. The use of impossible math problems only proves logic, all it indicates is we lack the knowledge to understand it yet. We've had many unsolveable math problems that as we learn more have been solved through logic, the very act of having an argument or a discussion requires the use of logic.

Quebec seperating would kill the housing market causing people that bought property worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to have there estimated proper value drop to not quite worthless but at least half that value. The economy would most likely crash as Montreal especially has alot of corporations who have tax deals with both the provincial and Federal government. The healthcare system would break, medicare isn't free and Quebec is in alot of debt. The immigration policies would most likely get worse limiting the possibilities of more educated professionals. The policies for immigration and what the government recognizes are allready bad enough, when you have professional dentists, doctors medical professions we lack unable to get certified because they havn't had all there permit or worse need to take remedial french in order to get certification to work in Quebec. I don't care what language a surgeon speaks as long as they can do the job.

Anyhow we'd have to change the name of the Montreal Canadians can't have that.

Perhaps I fail to see what the big issue is if you didn't like the venue just leave? Noah held a free party in a place he wanted to, no one was forced to go, last I checked there were other parties going on in multiple locations. I couldn't make it myself and perhaps the venue wouldn't of been my cup of tea but if that was the case I would just leave and find something else to do, this is a a free country after all.

Noah I hope you enjoyed your party.

The total revenue is somewhere in the ballpark of 56 Billion. The healthcare budget is 22.1 billion, its a huge chunk of the budget by socialized medecine is expensive and its not just the pills and chemicals. The equipment is expensive, competeing against a tough market for doctors, not to mention making it very hard to certify doctors who immigrate here from other countries or provinces.

I phrased my last comment wrong, we need a more balanced look at medicare and more importantly how much of that 22.1 billion is actually going to help the underfunded hospitals and not just inflating pencil pushers salaries, but it's still the best system we have, we shouldn't let the sick die if we can prevent it.

The system is far from perfect, but honestly it works. I will be the first to admit we lack doctors and we need more funding but at least its available to everyone regardless of insurance or coverage.

Having a proper balanced budget would be nice, but while we're on pipe dreams I'd like a pony.

Actually the income tax increase is only for the people in the lowest tax brackett. So this really only benefits the middle and upper classes. The poorest people in society actually had a tax increase as only luxury items are taxed by GST in the first place.

The income tax rate for those whose make 36,400$ gross or less went from 15 to 15.5.

Right wing governments reduce taxes for the corporations.
