Dear friends & supporters,

last event of the year. The event is taking place at 4445 St. Laurent.
We are pleased to welcome you to the newly renovated, Academy Club.
2 rooms, new soundsystem, new lights - come by and check it out.
Drink specials b4 midnight ($3 a beer, $4 a mixed drink).

Stephen Beaupré's Bio

More than 10 years of active participation on the Montreal scene
has converted Stephen Beaupré into an uncontestable dj/ artist in
the world of Canadian music. Attracting attention with his Crackhaus
project, for which he collaborates with his friend and fellow artist
Deadbeat, Steve has managed to gain recognition as a solo artist with
his EP Dirty Lipreading on the upstart Montreal label Musique Risquée,
launched by Akufen and Vincent Lemieux. 2006 brings the release of his
first solo album, the masterful Foe Destroyer, released on both
Musique Risquée and MUTEK_REC .

His particular approach to music manifests itself in decomposed and
syncopated rhythms, which he develops with an incredible spontaneity.
Animated ambiances based upon abstract and organic textures abound in
his productions, where an equal measure of house and techno interplay
with elements of funk, guided by a strong artistic sensitivity.
Diverse vocals and instrumentation, reworked with humor, intermingle
with intense beats, delivering both a relaxed and agitated tone to his
pieces.

Cutting his teeth as an adolescent promoter for electronic music
events in Ottawa, Stephen became quickly seduced by the more
substantial rhythms and textures of house and techno that was striving
to be deeper, funkier and more engaging. He began djing at 18, always
with a mind for the dancefloor, always trying to stay close to the
crowd. With a love for gritty punchy music, at once technological and
organic, Stephen skillfully mixes dancefloor rocking tracks always
trying to create an atmosphere of humour, excitement and malaise.

Over the past few years Stephen has toured in four continents both
solo and with Crackhaus performing in such cities as Tokyo, Berlin,
Beijing, Detroit, Valparaiso, Mexico City, Paris and New York to name
a few. He has played along side such luminaries as Matthew Herbert,
Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos, Pole, Isolée, Dimbiman and many
other like minded artists.

MARK-HENNING (DJ Set) - Canadian Debut
PHEEK (Live DJ Set)
OSTRICH (DJ Set)

For the second installment, 13% is showcasing two artists signed
to UK / German-based house and techno digital label, Clever Music.
This event will be held on July 18th at 900 Ontario East, corner of
Ste. André, Headlining the night will be Clever Music label boss
Mark-Henning and Montreal-based Pheek. Warm up duties
will be performed by 13% Resident, Ostrich. Doors open at 10pm
and the event will go on till 3am. $12 at the door, limited places.

13% is proud to announce that this will be Mark-Henning’s Canadian
debut appearance. Born in 1977 to English and German parents, Mark
has been rising up as one of the international underground’s true
players. Having recorded for a volley of acclaimed European labels
like Trapez, Freude am Tanzen, Foundsound, and Morris Audio; Mark’s
sound sits somewhere between house and techno, with a healthy dose
of futuristic bleeps, funk, darkness, groove and deepness. Fresh out
of the studio, Mark-Henning will be on tour to promote his debut album
“Jupiter Jive”, which was released by Soma Recordings on June 16th.

The night will also feature our Montreal local hero / recording artist
Pheek, who will be performing a Live DJ Set. Pheek recorded the
“L'Ordre Des Collisions EP”, which was Clever Music’s first release in
2004. The reception of this EP was so grandly received amongst the
industry’s peers that Pheek’s track entitled “Magda Had A Little Troll”
continued to ride the wave of its’ popular success two years later
when it was re-released with an assortment of remixes delivered by
artists such as Mike Shannon, [a]pendics.shuffle, and Mark-Henning.

13 % - Celebrating the launch of a new collective, whose aim is to bring forth cutting edge artists (up-and-coming & already established) in the techno and tech-house music industry.

Our duty for the first event is to shed light on artists signed to Montreal-based record label, Archipel. Operated and run by label boss Pheek, who requires very little introduction to this city for he is seen as an artist who helped put Montreal on the map for techno music. With a very unique style of his own, Pheek's craft is his architecture of layered sound. If you've never heard a live set by this man - now would be the best time because he is on the top of his game.

Ryan Crosson is one of the hardest working producers in the industry. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Part of the new breed of Detroit, Ryan has made a name for himself over the past few years with his floor friendly livesets and releases on Archipel, Trapez, Telegraph and M_nus under his alias Berg Nixon. Drawing from the likes of Matthew Dear, Magda and Ricardo Villalobos, his percussive often shuffle style of techno makes him one to watch for the future.

Warm up duties will be performed by 13 % resident, Ostrich (aka Nadir Agha). A part of a younger generation of artists who found passion in art, especially music and films. Upon exploring his talents as a DJ, producer, and an aspiring filmmaker, Nadir's sound carries various funk-flavored elements of techno that is bounded by deep house, categorizing itself as deep tech-house. His narrative approach to DJ sets under the Ostrich moniker, allows his art to speak through music. His first release generated a lot of interest and was picked up by a Turkish record label called Bosphorus Underground.
