It was a fun ride for sure! Most of us are now 30-40 with kids and a career...

The electronic music scene is still going, they just dont post events on [ rave.ca ] anymore. The other social medias, like facebook took over.

Im still going to [ rave.ca ] sometimes, mostly to look at pictures from the party back in the days, so many good memories :-D

Funny thing, I just found today one of my co-worker at Rewire in 2005! (I met her a year ago, haha)

I don't see [ rave.ca ] as a tombstone but more like a monument about our past history.

Yes Basdini, the scene got a serious kick in the nuts. The after hour scene too got a decline, only in Montreal there was 7 after hour clubs in Montreal +2 at QC city back in the days. Only the Circus and the Stereo still remain. Btw, I really miss the Aria :-(

The QC rave scene...well, there's no more rave scene there!

Before our scene was HUGE! Ravezone(Qc), Rave Montreal (RM), Montreal rave, [ rave.ca ] running full steam. Rave EVERY weekends, Friday, saturday, even sunday, sometime even more than 1 party per night and we had also nights in bars during the week.

We had "sub-scenes": Happy hardcore/candy, Hard-tech, trance, house/techno, goa/psytrance, name it! It was really diversified.

It was the golden age

Then 2007.

I think it was the year that everything started to go south.

-Many big rave promoters left
-Penury of venues and the ones we got was not always adequate.
-The amphetamine speed/E disappeared, the über crap pills that we have today hit the market.
-Our population started to get smaller and smaller, meaning less parties and forced website like Rave Montreal to close down...with their events
-I guess a combination of the above made the sub-scenes, especially the Candies, to disappear.
-Domino effect for the rest.

I agree that the scene of today is really meh compared with what we had before.

It's not beyond repairs. Seriously I don't think we can rebuilt the raves "golden age" but with some efforts/participation, publicity...lot of, more people like Hugo and Kandi nights that work hard to make decent parties with a good vibe. Our old rave scene didn't appeared by magic :-P It was with people, commitment and passion. A relaunch of [ rave.ca ] is underway. I hope for the best.

I can be forum/communities moderator, I still visit the site frequently (one of the only). And you know trolls and drama will disappear once and for all with me, hehehe. But don't worry, I will not manage this like a military prison camp either :-P

For me I see rave as a culture and the happy hardcore, hardtech, psytrance scene (ect) as a subculture.

I agree with Nemorave, you must see it by yourself. What "normal people" think...

and what actually happen is different. Lots of prejudgements.

Previous members comments are bang on as for raves and clubs.

On the drugs subject, I do take drugs but only to enhance my senses and give me tons of energy but I give myself limits (Well, most of the times, lol), I see no points to get totally spaced out as it get counterproductive to the experience. However, many times I enjoyed raves and underground events without drugs.

For me the rave scene is a place where all people from different horizons, with diffrent point of views, from different races, culture, sexual orientation...ect, can get together in peace and have a united synergy on the dance floor. From my entire life, I experienced this feeling nowhere else, this is what keep me coming back. Also, raves was a mind-opening experience for me, it changed my life, my views and in a really good way.

Very good resume. But I don't agree with the end title "The end of the rave era", it still going strong totay and all around the world. The vibe evolved but not disappeared.

They were pulled out of Crimea few days ago. I don't think any sides want to start world war 3 over Crimea, meh. Like it happen before, Moscow and the west will throw sanctions at each others but in a few years they will probably talk to each others again.

Yes, the main decisions are always political but economy can be a factor. To escalate the conflic (or not) may be affected by it.

Like the 7 years war, economy greatly affected the political decision to make a peace agreement between the powers since they were near bankruptcy.

At first I was a little bit worried but as time go by, I was pretty sure that nothing would happen, at most sanctions.

I don't think that nuclear war was ever in the picture. War maybe, but not a nuclear one.

Since 2000 (Chechenya) and the Russo-Georgian war (2008), Putin is playing a nice game of chess with the West. They size every occasion of troubles to gain controls over regions. All this with some legitimation of their acts.

There efforts seem to be around the Black sea.




I don't think it will go further since both the West AND Russia have economic problems on their hands.
