First drugs came for the 28 year old sketchy honky with bad teeth from Sudbury,
and I didn't quit dropping E because I'm not white trash with addiction issues.

Then drugs came for the black chick,
and I didn't quit rolling cuz I don't do crack.

Then drugs came for the sexy go-go dancer,
and so I broke up with her to find a new girl friend.

Then drugs came for my bestie,
and I let her sprial cuz I didn't want her to leave me all alone in the rave scene.

I use to think this was the best scene ever. It use to be all about Peace. And Love. And Unity. And Respect. And music. And costumes. And amazing experiences with awesome people. I still love the events, and going with friends and having amazing adventures. In a sense this scene saved my life. But maybe it saved mine just to kill others. I don't consider myself jaded. I'm just really sad. I've become a realist - Time makes the tint on the rose colored glasses wear off

Remember all those stories we use to hear about people who got in too deep? Those who went down the proverbial rabbit hole into wonderland and never came back up? They ended up on the street. Or in debt to drug dealers for ridiculous sums of money. Or worked their way up to crack or meth. Or started dating the sketchiest guys. Or started dealing drugs. Or became the people who mixed 8 different drugs together 3 days a week searching for teh high they would never achieve again, all while burning off 40 billion brain cells a night.

I remember hearing those stories, and thinking "That won't happen to us. We're not degenerates" At the begining, you didn't notice the people, or if you did, recognized them as "that sketchy dude or cracked out chick in their mid to late 20s." And at 18, they're just kinda an inconvience. We didn't talk to those sketch bags.

And then at 19 and 20, it wasn't us, but a friend of that older friend we had. That 25 y/o girl was so much fun, but she had this really sketchy friend named Joel. He was always such a mess.

At 22, it was a friend of ours, but a friend that was a few years older, and one we met in a rave, and had some fun with once upon a time. A rave friend. You didn't really know them that well, and they were nice, but you weren't comfortable enough with the friendship to say anything. And its sad, but by that point, the mindset was "such is life in the rave scene." So many rave friends have disapeared one day never to be seen again, and new one entered. It was kind of like a circle of life.

And now in our mid-20s, its us. First its our friends. Then it hits our inner circle. It becomes our best friends. Our ex-gfs. Our ex-bfs. People we love. People we shared amazing experiences with. People we care and know intimately. People we would go to the end of the world for. Its the most painful thing in the world when it hits home. Cuz then you see your friends fucking up your best friends, and your best friends fucking up your friends. As soon as they think their out, they get drawn back in. And you see them struggling, and hurting themselves and hurting each other, and you can't say anything. Because its not just a friend. Its about her friends. Its bout your entire circle. Its a way of life. To a large extent, its all we know.

It began like this: We've made fun of Ford before for his lunatic pronouncements and nude pictures. Last week, we got a tip from someone claiming to have a videotape of Ford smoking crack. Would we like to buy it?

The tipster made the following claims:

• Toronto Mayor Rob Ford smokes crack cocaine.

• There is a video of Rob Ford smoking crack cocaine, taken within the last six months.

• Rob Ford purchases his crack cocaine from a crew of Toronto drug dealers that service a veritable who's who of A-list...Torontonians? Torontites? Anyway, a lot of prominent people in Toronto purchase and enjoy crack and powder cocaine, and they all buy it from the same folks. The same folks Ford buys it from. Ford's longtime friend, people on his staff, his brother, a prominent hockey analyst, and more.

Here is what the video shows: Rob Ford, the mayor of Toronto, is the only person visible in the frame. Prior to the trip, I spent a lot of time looking at photographs of Rob Ford. The man in the video is Rob Ford. It is well-lit, clear. Ford is seated, in a room in a house. In one hand is a a clear, glass pipe. The kind with a big globe and two glass cylinders sticking out of it. In the other hand is a lighter. A slurred voice off-camera is ranting about Canadian politics in what sounds like an attempt to goad Ford. "Pierre Trudeau was a faggot!" is the one phrase the lodges in my mind. Ford, pipe in one hand and lighter in the other, is laughing, and mildly protesting at the sacrilege. He seems to keep trying to light the pipe, but keeps stopping to laugh. He is red-faced and sweaty, heaving with each breath. Finally, he finds his moment and lights up. He inhales.

Ebay charges the seller an 8% fee. YOu're also required to pay for shipping which is often 8-15% of the item cost. And, on top of all this, the seller is making a profit, or he/she wouldnt be selling on ebay...

A retailer has neither of those costs. Instead, they pay for showroom space, and salespeople. No offense to retailers, but that leaves them plenty of scope to be competitive with Ebay and amazon.

And when you think about it...most retailers are not in a very sophisticated operation. They buy shit in bulk and resell it using minimum wage labour. I don't know why retailers think they deserve a very high markup for this activity. Its not a very important or very impressive service they are providing, so retailing margins should be low.

Just out of curiosity...how do you decide who does what? Does the gf do everything? the bf? do you split it 50/50? or does someone do more?

I always grew up with the mentality that relationships are about equality in a holistic sense. So the housework could be split 50/50, but doesn't have to be. For example, if one person is paying more of the bills, the other could be expected to do more of the housework. Or the perhaps the person working/studying fewer hours takes care of more of the housework.

Have you ever been in a situation where you pulled the weight of both you and your partner? Ie - payed more of the bills, and did more of the housework? Did you talk to them about it?

Do you feel that they are showing you a lack of respect by not pulling their own weight?

Have you ever broken up with someone over it?

I actually buy his argument. It doesn't make a lot of sense to not own a gun if everyone already has one. If I lived in the US, I'd want a gun too. That, and in theory, even ifs a low probability liklihood, having the means to protect yourself against tyranical governments is something the people should be prepared for.

And if the government gets more sophisticated weaponry, so too should the people.

From the Wall Street Journal of all places...

Once almost exclusively an underground movement, electronic dance music (EDM) is now embraced by a mainstream pop audience. Accordingly, some of the new, radio-friendly music feels meek and calculated, especially when it's spun at high-energy festivals: The complex rhythms and synthesized orchestrations from a variety of sources that gave texture and a sense of adventure to the music now sit equal, if not secondary, to pop and hip-hop vocals. But there's a fear that hitting the mainstream will have a corrupting effect on EDM.

Once almost exclusively an underground movement, electronic dance music is now embraced by a mainstream pop audience. But as Jim Fusilli explains on Lunch Break, there's a fear that hitting the mainstream will have hurt the genre. Photo: Getty Images.

"If somebody said to me: Play 'The Time of My Life' by the Black Eyed Peas and throw your hands in the air, I couldn't do it," said Carl Cox, a veteran DJ and producer. "If you gave me $10 million, I couldn't do it."

There's also a growing sense that some newcomers to giant EDM festivals (the three-day Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas beginning Friday, for instance, is expected to draw more than 300,000 people), or those who spent time in the dance tent at this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, still prefer songs they've heard on the radio to on-the-spot DJ mash-ups or the varying forms of EDM known as house.

Some DJs are reaching for pop stardom. David Guetta's 2011 album "Nothing but the Beat" featured vocal performances by Jennifer Hudson, Ludacris, Nicki Minaj and Usher. Five of the album's tracks scored high on Billboard's top-singles charts. When Mr. Guetta spun at Coachella in April, he leaned heavily on his pop productions. Similarly, the highlight of Calvin Harris's pop-minded set at the same festival was an appearance by Rihanna, who turned up to sing "We Found Love," their collaboration from her 2011 disc "Talk That Talk." But the backing tracks built by Messrs. Guetta and Harris are cliché-riddled, white-bread house that don't represent the best of the genre.

Said Norman Cook, the veteran DJ and producer who works as Fatboy Slim: "David Guetta and others took it out of the underground. Everybody is trying to ride that wave. They're just trotting it out."

For some of today's biggest EDM names, the preferred workshop is the recording studio rather than a nightclub riser. Tim Bergling, aka Avicii, a 22-year-old from Stockholm and an emerging EDM superstar, said: "I didn't come up from DJing, where you're doing 300 shows a year. I feel pretty free, but I want to cater to everyone. I can't play house for two hours."

EDM artists in pursuit of a larger audience are also exploring new venues. Last December, Swedish House Mafia sold out Madison Square Garden. Avicii's next tour, beginning on Thursday, is booked in arenas—not clubs—in the U.S. and Canada. "I stay pretty true to my own music, my own sound," he said. "It's pretty improvisational, but I have a plan."

As EDM and its related events continue to grow, an audience may be developing that wants nothing more than predictable, middling entertainment. Given the new audience's response, why would big-name producers go back to old-school DJing that requires concentration and knowledge of a vast musical database? At festivals, with the computerized lasers and frenetic lights ablaze, a producer can slap on one of his hits and walk away until it's time to press a laptop key to start the next one. But Mr. Cox finds all that contrary to the DJ ethos. "I'm not Carl Cox the hit player," he said. "I find I have to work hard for it. I have no idea what I'm going to play when I start."

A few old-school DJs, who once spun vinyl albums that they carried around in crates, see a bright side to the rising popularity of EDM. They believe a significant portion of the audience will soon tire of pop-electronics and migrate to something more spontaneous. Richie Hawtin, who referred to himself as a DJ with a classic approach, called it "cross pollination." "I'm optimistic," he said. "This new generation of producers are getting a new generation of people into the sound of electronic music."

Said Mr. Cox: "I'm 50 years old now. I grew up with vinyl, a needle on a record. Turntablism. I'd play a blend of disco with funk, soul and house with a 909 drum machine," he added, referring to a primitive device. "Am I supposed to dumb down to the idea that all I'm doing is pressing a button?"

Yo its 2012, which means the end of days is approaching. Are you creating a survival pack? Are you training? Do you have a plan? If so what in the pack? HOw are you training? Whats your plan?

I'm thinking of buying lots of tuna and crackers and bottled water and water filters. And I'm gonna go to MEC and buy a tent and sick sleeping bag and portable stove. I'm also looking for a girlfriend who has a lot of experience in zombie suvival.

Is anyone interest in creating a survival group? We can go into the woods and survive and create a new society. Like a massive outdoor rave festival, but with no lame music.

I was trying to figure out what it might be...and all I got was this: [ www.skincancerguide.ca ] But I'm too young to have cancer and I'm too colored to have skin cancer. SO its obviously something else.

When a sound become mainstream, it sure does go to shit. I miss chilled out and rythmic dubstep and wicked basslines. Why is it so aggressive now? Its sad that dubstep had to become non-dubstep in order to be enjoyed by the masses. I was listening to a 2005 set by plastician today, and its not even at all comparable to "dubstep" thats put out today.

Arguably, Korn did invent the aggressive noise known as dubstep thats everywhere today.

There should be a simple rule: If its not fun to enjoy with K, then its not dubstep.
