Most deejay's that embrace the art of mixing records may never put the time and effort to progress past their bedroom door. This isn't the case with dj Sw@t, who has been hustling non-stop to ensure her spot in the drum&bass hierarchy. Since 2005 Sw@t has been a driving force of new urban sounds in the humble city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada with unprecedented enthusiasm. Skill and recognition comes with knowledge, and the curious mind of Sw@t is what drives her to make new connections with like minded heads from across Canada, and abroad promoting herself and others while gaining more knowledge and respect from her drum&bass peers.

Being directly involved with the classic d&b weekly Extra Strength Saturdays it was the inception that would evolve as promoters and heads alike began to take note of the sounds of dj Sw@t. An evolution that would get her booked at numerous club nights and grimey all night events, locally and across the nation; so much so that she had enough of a following to make a new stamp on the scene with her own production camp known as Hi-Rev. While not only representing her hometown and sound, it was clear that there needed to be better representation for the ladies making real moves in the national scene by starting the collective known as DNB Girls Of Canada to show the nation that this isn't just a boys club.

Well rounded in the sounds of drum&bass, and dubstep it's clear that Sw@t is turning heads from her guest appearances on Bassdriveís rinse-out radio, podcasts for [ djvibe.com ] to her own live radio show on KrisisDnB and more recently on Global Vortex Radio, it really is hard not pay attention. With interviews for Kmag online, [ ravescum.com ] and [ djvibe.com ] sheís gaining well deserved hype and her onslaught of dj mixes, and charisma are to blame. Her mixing style is her own with banging bass-heavy anthems to liquid and soulful sounds, Sw@t is a true selector, she's a crowd pleaser who hypes party-goers with choice tunes and dub plates, keeping her style eclectic and fresh.

Like ripping people bass-faces off with diverse and energetic track selections wasn't enough, Sw@t expands her skills into the studio releasing a soulful dubstep jam "Base Case" in 2009 and more recently her collaboration with notorious Inside Info on the d&b smasher "Awkward", released July 12th on Viper recordings. Just goes to show that her ride doesn't stop there while the demand for Sw@t to stay on top of her game becomes more and more evident. Watch this space.

Grounds on which it’s okay to bash a promoter...

Let me rephrase that. On what grounds do YOU think it is necessary to inform other artists and agencies about a faulty promoter?

Is it not paying the due amount? Or a supplying a faulty set up or not supplying what was requested? Forgetting to pick you up at the airport and showing up 5 hours late? Maybe it’s simply not having a $100.00 bar tab for the artists with an unlimited supply of energy –drinks. Or maybe the promoters that barely attempt to promote their parties leaving next to no attendance?

And if all is verbal agreements, or online and not contractual should all be dismissed on both parts, regardless of DJ or Promoter prevous agreements?

I'm interesting in knowing what you all think...

We fire some questions at the girl spreading the DnB and Dubstep in Canada and North America.

DJ Sw@t has been DJing since early 2005. In the past, she has held down a club residency at the successful and long-running "Extra Strength Saturdays" in Winnipeg MB, and has toured extensively across Canada. DJ Sw@t webcasts weekly (live) shows on [ Krisisdnb.com ] & [ ProtokolRadio.com ] and is featured on [ Pushradio.com ] (pre-recorded) monthly (last Thursday of each month) as well as regular guest spots on Winnipeg's own "Rinseout Radio" on [ Bassdrive.com ]

The lovely Kozee (redline, brapdem! SF) is regarded as one
of the most talented and visionary dubstep djs in the San
Francisco bay area. Also adept at spinning drum and bass
and hip-hop, Kozee is gifted with the rare ability to
drive waves and velocities beyond the farthest futuristic
reaches of each genre. Kozee has djed back to back with
Silkie and along with MRK1 while she was touring the UK
and continues to get bookings with other up and coming
North American dubstep producers such as DZ, Antiserum,
DJG, Eskmo, and Djunya. Kozee was also recently featured
in Time Out London for a article that featured Mary Ann
Hobbs and Vaccine, “Dub be good to She”. Both subliminal
and dynamic, her skills transport the listener to dimen-
sions of energy and pleasure hitherto unknown.

dubstep scene, she has already managed to develop a
considerable talent and a loyal following.

nowadays Miss SW@T plays many local & out of city /
province events and club-nights, whipping Canada's
dance-floors into dripping masses... as well as playing
