From the bowels of a forgotten Jungle scene rose one of Halifax’s most notorious & sought after sound selekta’s: Harmsworth. Known for his soul crushing style from far and wide, he is also no stranger to making a danceloor get busy…to call him versitile would be an understatement. Be it with jungle, breaks, glitch hop , electro, house ,dub step or a combination of all six, you can guarentee he will have even the haters nodding their heads to his madness.

Co-founding Halifax collectives ‘Break Beat Elite’ and ‘The Halifield Movement’ his influence will be forever ingrained on the city’s nightlife. He has played all over Eastern Canada, sharing the stage with such greats as Excision, Bare Noize, Bombaman, Big League Chu, Myagi, Mistress Barbera, J-Bass and Lee Coombs as well many local favorites.

Making the move to Montreal was obviously next on his hit list, quickly getting numerous gigs and most recently gaining senior resident status with DubMa$hine. With an appetite for mayhem and obviously nowhere to go but up, brace yourself for the pain…brace yourself for the Harmsworth.

No stranger to the jungle scene, some people forget Dare was one of the people that brought Jungle/D&B to Montreal back in the early 90s, and he's never lost his roots.
Corey's been spinning D&B for so long he can't remember being without it. After cutting his teeth playing opening slots at Angels on Thursdays in the late 90s, some guy named Ben let him play at his raves and the rest is history. Something happened in the middle there but his memory is shit, so this will have to do. Since then he's produced events featuring everyone...Marcus Visionary, Gridlok, Total Science, Intalex, Original Sin, Dieselboy, Ed Rush, Goldie....the list goes on. Point is he really likes the music so when you see him stressed out in the club, get him a shot or something and tell him to relax.

These two had such a good time spinning together at the BLOKHE4D event that they decided to make it a regular thing. :P

Evan "Gnave" Goodman was born in 1991, and began dj'ing when he was 17. After meeting a few of the cities event promoters, Gnave began making a name for himself. Already at the age of 19, Gnave has been in the scene for a while now. He now plays for Bouddha Slinky, who are constantly bringing in big names in Dubtep to Montreal. Playing alongside the likes of Flux Pavillion, Chrispy, and Excision, Datsik, Excision, 12th Planet, and more, Gnave has made himself a staple in the Montreal Dubstep scene.

Christopher Mercer, aka Rusko was born in Leeds in 1985 to a musical family. From day one Rusko was surrounded by music. Whether it be his family’s pianos, guitars, banjos and saxophones… or the heavy reggae and dub sound systems of later years in Leeds, music has always been an integral part of Rusko’s life.

After graduating from Leeds College of Music with a degree in Music Production, Rusko discovered the world of dubstep through the Leeds club night Subdub and a debut appearance from the Digital Mystikz. Having spent the past 10 years making future dub alongside Leeds very own Iration Steppas, Rusko connected with the sound and moved down to London to further advance his musical opportunities with Sub Soldiers label mate Caspa.

Veering away from the dark, serious side of the sound Rusko brought a highly driven energy and fun approach to the dubstep massive and quickly coined his own take on the genre and turned the scene upside down. His sound appealed to many people outside of the dubstep world as his productions became more adventurous in formula, sound and energy. His huge hit Cockney Thug has been played by everyone from Pete Tong, Switch, Diplo and Santogold, and has been remixed by Buraka Som Sistema, Diplo, Caspa, Drop the Lime and the Scratch Perverts.

Now at 25, Rusko is only in first gear, with collaborations on the table with the likes of Switch, Diplo , Yo Majesty and Wiley, the future sure is looking bright. Already setting the radio airwaves alight with his own productions and remixes of artists like Adele and A-Trak featuring Kid Sister, Rusko is headed in the right directions.

In an era when it seems every DJ shows up to gigs carrying something smaller than a kid’s lunchbox, Doorly is the exception to this rule. Using a set up that would make even Zabiela blush (3 CDJs, 2 1210s, EFX unit and Pioneer 800 to be precise), when he says he’s DJing live, he means it. Everything that you hear in is set his being created in the mix, there and then. Blokhe4d is the collaborative project between Michael "Vegas" (of Bad Company UK) alongside US-born Jonas "Uman". The project merges drum and bass, dubstep and electro with their own brand of techno, disco and house in an explosive manner.

They have already secured several releases on Hospital Records (home of High Contrast, London Elektricity and Netsky), as well as singles on their own Bad Taste imprint and remix work. Their debut artist album is scheduled to hit the streets in 2011.

Uman has spent the last several years producing and touring as part of Task Horizon, with tunes on labels like Timeless, Sudden Def, Viper and Concord Dawn's label Uprising. Sometime in 2007 a subsection of dubstep broke cover and headed off in a new direction. Starting in Bristol, it shot over the Channel and headed for the middle ground between itself and Berlin, to unite in a shared love of Jamaican bass, delay and space with a little Detro...it groove.

While currently and originally a Bristolian, Appleblim spent some time in London in ‘94. It was to prove influential: “‘the one’ really,” as he himself puts it, in his usual enthusiastic tone. “We just caught the bug: listening to the radio, finding out what was going on and picking up our first jungle tunes.” Like many of dubstep’s pioneers, be it Loefah, Burial or Kode9, Appleblim had caught the jungle bug and through it, developed a love of dub, bass and dark spaces that would keep him in good stead later. He learned to mix on a mate’s set of decks but thought little more of it. In fact the world might not have known more of Appleblim were he have not discovered a club called Forward>>

At the beginning of 2007, Appleblim, like many of the headz who have attended the club religiously only to turn into participants, got asked to play at the very space that had inspired him and Shackeleton, Forward>>. “It’s very strange going from being a raver who was there obsessively down the front to going tosomeone standing behind the decks. It’s definitely an honour: I’ve had countless epiphanies down there, so if I can give people a few of those then that’s my job done.”

Perhaps techno, like hardcore, will never die. Early dubsteppers were as influenced by it as the UK garage scene the genre grew out of, be it Horsepower and El-B’s love of Basic Channel, Artwork’s blatant Jeff Mills influence on “Basic G” or the warm tech of DJ Abstract’s “Touch.” But certainly the case that Detroit and Euro techno’s influence on dubstep had at least moved to the background before Appleblim and friends began to gather momentum.
Now an entire sub-movement seems to be gathering pace underneath the dubstep umbrella. The boundaries between dubby techno and techy dubstep seem to have dissolved. The critical question is, however, will the upshot be more than or less than the sum of its parts? Are we headed for “dubstep” sets that are little more than rigid 140bpm techno? Will it become totally clean formless e-lead headspace, with the edge, the rude awakening of the urban bass injection lost? Appleblim is unconcerned.

“I think there’s a lot of genre blurring going on,” he explains “and there is a sort of a danger that it will become 140bpm techno, but the answer is [that] it needs to retain some funk and swing. Having said that I try to just view great music as great music, and always have, so that I might play a tune by a ‘dubstep’ producer that sounds essentially like a ‘techno’ tune... in the end, if it moves you it moves you...”

“I wanted the mix to be a representation of what I play in the clubs, a mixture of unreleased exclusive dubplates and some big tunes that I helped to break... I was amongst the first to play [some of] these tunes out, and wanted to give more exposure to tracks that I really think are phenomenal.”
